Dig it

Notice the screws holding it together? That would suggest it could be taken apart and fixed.

No need to toss the whole thing when it breaks. And no plastic either!

Very Cool, Thanks or posting Robert.

Yes these pumps can be taken apart to fix them, Just LIKE the plastic pumps that replaced them by the mid 1960s. These metal pumps had very poor durability because of corrosion issues that lead to pin-hole leaks [ if something was built this badly today there would probably be a class action suit because of all the water damage these pumps caused, LOL ] , they also often clogged with clothing threads and lint because the inside surfaces would get so rough from the corroded Pot-Metal material they were made from.

Maybe if the pumps were made from stainless steel then it wouldn't have corrosion issues-then you could take it apart to fix it.Add a SS impeller, too. But for washers, the poly pumps do hold up better.

rebuild of metal or plastic poly pumps

I have an a806 1975 maytag which was making a roaring noise from the pump. Bought a new pump and changed it out, but out of curiousity, took the old one apart and realized that maybe I could have repaired it by adding another washer or two to move the rubber impeller away from one side of the plastic housing. Has anyone ever rebuilt these types of pumps (metal or plastic), instead of replacing them? I mean on this site with maybe some pics? Les
