Getting a little uneasy here

OK I think everything is getting better.

I have a few things to say and then we can be done with this. Barry started this thread about a wonderful movie which would touch many of us in this forum. It was a great thread and that is why I created the Super Forum to segregate all off topic posts, off topic means anything that is not related to Automatic Washers, Dryers or Dishwashers, period. While it would be nice if we could control what people want to talk about in this forum, but we learned the hard way over the past six years that simply stamping our feet and demanding that people stay on topic is not realistic and its not going to work.

Furthermore everyone is welcome. In my opinion its has been great fun seeing some of vacuum cleaner contingent come over and show off their treasures and I hope they will continue to do so. I want to make it quite clear that you vacuum guys are welcome to use the Super Forum for posts until you settle into a home of your own. If you were posting vacuum stuff in the Imperial Forum that might cause problems, but you haven’t been and that is just what the Super Forum is for.

Since I designed, wrote and maintain this website as well as pay for the all costs except for the server that holds our videos (Jon Charles pays for video server) I have the final say on the rules. If some of you guys don’t like that I’m sorry, but someone has to have the final say. If you wish to start a second website with different rules please do so, there is no reason why that can’t be more than one vintage washer website.

So Now I’m going to lay out the automaticwasher.org the DON'T list:

Don’t post overtly sexual things please. Please, Please, Please, how many times do I have to ask this! Hello! Hetro or Homo or any other kind of sex, doesn’t belong here. Now for the uneducated, talking about gay movies or politics or pride marches etc is fine, that has nothing to do with sex, such as the Brokeback Mountain thread.

Don’t post religious or other nonsense that looks down upon people or tells people how to live their lives just because. As I said before what goes on behind closed church doors needs to stay there. Period, I have very little tolerance for crap like that.

Don’t post anything that could be construed as racist or sexist or just plain mean and stupid.

Don’t post I’m bidding on eBay so don’t bid against me or else type posts.

And most do be nice to each other OR ELSE the webmaster will show you want a non air conditioned hell is like. I have only needed to ban a couple of people from posting over the past five years, lets keep it that way please. And don’t think I can’t do it because I have and will again.

Now can we please be done with this?

Thank-you so much Robert for your posting!! Everyone needs to remember just how lucky we are to have this site! We are like a family here and there will be things that we disagree on. This happens in every family! May I also suggest that if there is a thread here on the super forum that you disagree with or are not interested in just skip over it. We all have this choice not only here but in many other choices we make everyday. I for one am so thankful that Robert set up the super forum. Everyone's collections that I have been lucky enough to see either here or in person has included many different and interesting things. I would really hate to see that stopped. We are all truly blessed to have found this site and to have made the friendships that developed from it. Please always remember that! Terry

I can tell you of at least one other heterosexual male in this group, ME! I am not a religious person, (more spiritual really) but I respect that you are. I have no plans to see "Brokeback Mountain" but wish anyone who does to enjoy it. I hope that this group can revert to the way it was In July when I first Joined it, because we had a lot of fun. But for the most part, life is good. Keep your chin up buddy, and please don't leave us.

Honestly I wouldn't have realized of anyone sex habits until now, because our VERY big love for washers and related topics is (and should be) over all, either if we are heterosexual o homosexual (I won't nevere say about me!!!)... and remeber THE ANGELS DO NOT HAVE SEX!

Skipping Over . . .

Another take on what has been posted previously above: Many folks subscribe to their daily newspaper, monthly magazines, or whatever. If you encounter an article that you don't like or disagree with, do you automatically cancel your subscription? Most likely not. Ignore and skip what offends you, turn the page and move on.

Unfortunately, there are some denominations that perhaps forget the Golden Rule.....do unto others as you would want them to do unto you...I am Episcopalian. We observe "Unity Through Diversity". We have women priests and bishops, gay priests and bishops (most notably, Gene Robinson in New Hampshire), I do not feel any hatred or prejudice in my parish.
We have a very diverse congregation. I am sorry to hear of denominations who cannot accept EVERYONE as a child of God.
I also believe in respecting each person for their beliefs.
Automatic washer.org is a place for people who love washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, toasters, etc.

Yes I did that was my daughters one birthday cake, forget what year. I took the Wilton cake decorating class at our community college and do them as a side business for now. I am looking into early retirement or quitting what ever comes first and becoming a personal chef. I am studying that now.

But what about the few people who post anti-Christian or anti-Religious message? Like "Bible Thumpers, Jesus Freak,", etc.? I don't get offended by much but THAT offends me more than anything. It's about the same as being sexist, or racist, or whatever. It just as intolerant.

Looks and sounds like you're in a denomination or church that's strongly anti-homosexual. Alot of Christian religions are. I find that churches like that are very bitter, mean-spirited and controlling. My parents go to one like that and I absolutely can't stand it. The pastor has a problem with Catholics and blasts them in almost every sermon. The one I go to is very modern and the pastor teaches you how to overcome real life issues like debt, divorce, poverty, etc.

Again, I'll quote one of my FAVORITE songs.

Thank you Robert for those simple rules which will make this club for all to enjoy. I love reading the Sandbox off topic discussions and although I don't often post, I appreciate this area where members can discuss a myriad of other topics but in a non judgmental and kind way. That was the original reason you created the sandbox, so we wouldn't have to trek back to yahoo all the time. If a certain thread doesn't interest me, I don't read it. I know you want the thread ended but had to give my late little blurb.

If you noticed - Cyber never responded past Roberts initial post. Sadly people who don't want to open their minds or challenge themselves to grow, NEVER WILL! - Notice how he mentioned that he avoids things that are against what he believes and thinks. This is understandable but many people choose to find the commonality in each other and learn from their differences.

I just moved from NYC back to a small town in PA - I've had to "curb my enthusiasm" many tmes - but its taught me so much about how far I've come. I don't know what Steven will do but I'm sure he'll still be reading once in a while.

We are a passionate bunch - both about our love of appliances and of preserving a good life! - I hope and pray - in the most open-minded way - that he'll move forward and think about it. Weather or not he does - this is not the place to worry about it!

Anyone ever learn to crochet? I did and used to make pot holders. Amazing how a ball of yarn can turn into a pot holder or even a blanket! Kind of a neat way to spend time.

People have NO TIME anymore. We're too busy making a living and not stopping to enjoy our lives. Not me. I have a job and I love it. But after 5pm I'm headed home to enjoy some non-privacy thanks to my parents (being sarcastic).

Anyone ever learn to crochet?

Yeah, I did as a little boy. My grandmother was a very good seamstress and she also could crochet beautifully. Her sister, who lived 3 doors down, got into a terrible fight with my grandmother and they didn't speak for 30years, was a fabulous knitter!! I loved both of them very much and would sneak over to my aunts where she INSISTED that I learn how to knit!!! I think that she did it to irritate my grandmother who could not get the hang of knitting. Well, I never did tell my grandmother that I could knit until they patched things up.

When my grandmother died I pulled her ball of yarn, with the piece that she was working on, out of the trash (the memory was too painful for my grandfather) and to this day I have it in a drawer and there it shall remain.

Needlepoint

Never learned to crochet or knit. My mom was and avid knitter. Always had homemade wool sweaters growing up.

My wife taught me to Needlepoint. I have done many pictures, foot stool covers etc. over the years. Find this very relaxing. Howver, I have not had the time to needlepoint in over 10 years.
