So, after sending a measly two bottles of Fresh Start to our Venus, I received, in kind, a TEXAS-SIZED thank-you in the form of this veritable smorgasbord of laundry products. Woooo-HOOO!

As luck would have it, I have numerous loads of laundry to do, so I'm going to try a different formula/brand with each of them. The Chinese Tide, however, is going to wait til next Saturday night, when I'm having guests in for a Chinese buffet. I don't often get the chance to match corresponding detergents with meals.

All right, if anyone wants me, I'll be in the laundry room, inhaling all the amazing scents. I'll try to resist hoovering any of it up my nose, LOL!

All Hail Venus, the belle of Bellville!

I've been using Babelfish Translator to help me get through the Spanish on these bags of detergent. On the front of one of the bags of Ariel it says "Pureza Silvestre" which Babel translates as 'Wild Purity'. I love that. Sounds like an indie French film or something.

I've been able to find most of those products at the local Mexican market which opened here last fall. If it wasn't for this group extolling the virtues of Mexican detergents, I probably would never have gone in to check it out.

Wild Purity...Lawdy!

Interesting translation. Does that mean if we bathe in it, we will be as pure as the driven snow? LOL I know my mom used to dump half of a box of Trend in the tub for our "bubblebath". That explains a lot... ;-)

Frigilux: let me know when you're doing Indian Curry and I'll launch a bag of that Indian Tide your way!

Hey, you know, a detergent swap would be fun. Many of us have some really odd regional/ethnic brands. Heck, swapping detergents for us is like most people swapping baseball cards. It could catch on!

no need to hail me...I'm just a modest detergent-aisle weirdo

Venus, I totally stripped my bed and washed everything in Ariel with yellow Suavitel and I can't wait to jump in for the night. I'm just waiting for the comforter to come out of the dryer. The lower level of my house smells SO good right now.

I love the scent of the Chinese Tide, too. Is the East Indian Tide the one that smells like feet?

Tomorrow I have a load of whites and a load of light colors, so I want to try the Ace (which looks quite a bit like Ariel, but the box looks like a Tide box).

I found my holy grail detergent for bath towels, which is the OxiClean Detergent Ball. Almost no suds at all---I don't even need to use softener; the final rinse is clear without it. Now my towels will be more absorbent. But the Ball is no fun to use, so I reserve it just for my bath towel loads.

Something is banging around in the dryer. I'll be back in a minute. Why would a comforter be banging??!

You should she her collection! Boy, I was tired in 15 minutes when we were there for the December Wash-in. LOL

Just kidding. Venus knows how and who to entertain. She has a special touch for that.

Enjoy the choosing!

Steve

That was weird. Most of the comforter save one foot-long tail had balled up and the tail was whipping against the dryer drum as it tumbled. That's never happened before. Man, it was loud, too.

Anyway, yes, Steve, I am having a blast trying all these different detergents. My box of German Persil arrived this week, so I've been using that, as well. It smells very herby---like chopped fresh rosemary. Quite different from American and Mexican detergents.

I've put all the detergents (including my open box of Tide CW) into Rubbermaid containers I picked up today, so the cupboard above my washer is full of labeled, sealed containers. I'm quite sure the OxiBall is not going to be with us long, so I've picked up 3 more starter kits (with the dispenser ball and a $2 coupon for the refill packs) and 4 refill packs. That should hold me for a year, at least, since I only need to use it once a week for bath towels.

I had no idea detergents could be so much fun. For years I just kept one bottle of Tide HE and a bottle of Woolite for my dark-colored loads on the shelf. Those days are over, LOL!

The bag of Tide is Chinese and doesn't have phosphates. I don't know if the Ace does or not; I already threw away the bags the detergents came in. Sorry!

I did notice that none of these bags said NOT FOR SALE IN AMERICA, which the bag of Ariel I received from mexgrocer.com earlier last week had printed on it.

Phosphates anyone.....?

Yes, most of the Mexican detergents contain phosphates. That is why the English ingredient label is strategically placed over the Spanish ingredient label. Until recently, the Chinese Tide did contain phosphates. It is now labeled as not having any phosphates. Foca and Roma, to my knowledge, also contain phosphates unless it has been recently reformulated for sale in the US.

Out of all the Mexican detergents, I like Ace the best. It reminds me of Tide, and I am pleased with its cleaning ability. You are right Eugene, the Indian Tide has no real scent. I guess they just don't appreciate highly fragranced detergents.

Enjoy -

Venus

Venus

they love it only if it permeates the room with a nice curry oder .. Duck and Run Sudsman

I'm with Venus regarding Ace. I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I picked a bag of Axion the other day also. Just for the record, this ain't your mother's Axion. This stuff is for dishes, and boy, does it make a heap o' suds. It says to add 1/3 cup powder, well I only sprinkled a small amount in the water (didn't measure), and I had more suds than I hardly knew what to do with. It has a nice lemon scent, and cleans very nicely.

There has been a sizable Mexican market in downtown Worthington (about 30 miles from me) for several years. Went there a couple of weeks ago specifically to look for detergents and.....the place has closed.

There are a lot of Mexicans working at the meat processing plant in Worthington--in fact, this whole area of the state has seen a huge jump in Mexican/Hispanic inhabitants, so I'm guessing the grocery relocated, rather than shut down completely. It's not listed in the local chamber of commerce list (no surprise there), so when I have time I'll have to go sleuthing for it.

Now I have to go try the Ace detergent on a load of whites. Oh, and I did find Suavitel (in four different flavors) at the HyVee in Worthington. They also carry Foca, but I'm not too interested in it.

It doesn't really smell like pine....but 'Forest Fresh' sounds more likely than "Wild Purity'. Maybe we can stretch it to 'outdoor fresh'.

While you're translating, any idea what 'bajaespuma' means? It won't translate that word at all. On the bags of Ariel, there's a picture of a frontload washer and it says "Use Bajaespuma". Any ideas? Anyone? Anyone?

"Bajaespuma" comes from baja=low and espuma=suds...therefore, low suds!

Pero yo he encontrado que Ariel tiene mas espuma que es necesario...
