I'm talking about lint, of course.

As far as I recall, things like terry cloth towels are lint givers.

Things like cotton/poly blend shirts can be "takers", when they form little lint pills all over the surface of the fabric.

Can anybody think of more lint givers and lint takers?

Chenille

I've got a Chenille throw that just gives and gives and gives....after a few years of washing it now looks more like gauze than chenille.

Washernut

Yes, I have (had) some Made In India all cotton bath mats... which steadily disintegrated with each washing. As if the cotton was itself mostly lint.

Since then have acquired some bamboo-rayon cotton blend bath mats with a spray latex backing. These are more sturdy, but for the first few washings, if I machine dry them, they completely fill the dryer lint screen with soft delightful fluffy lint - to a depth of 1/2 inch or more. I'm hoping their giving days are limited; time will tell.

cords are takers

I always heard that cords (as in corduroys) were takers--they picked up threads faster than anything in a washload...

OK, it's been years since I wore cords, and back then they tended to get worn smooth.

Other takers might include woven blankets. I haven't tried washing one with cotton terry cloth, but I understand the microfiber terry cloth towels are takers as well - the instructions say not to wash them with other things.

Of course, cats and dogs are big givers, but then we don't put them in our washers... do we?
