When you do finally find the solution, please post it here.
I grew up with an Australian assembled machine, i think it was similar underneath. (multi-matic?)
Our machine was absolutely dreadful at balancing, right from brand new. it shook the whole house when spinning, and most days getting it to spin took many attempts, usually it just spun a little then shut off. (out of balance.) Every now and then, about once a week, it would overheat from so many start attempts, then you would have to let it cool down, then press the reset and try again.
I don't know how my mother put up with it. It was rebuilt by factory approved repairers twice (after other faults) and the balancing never improved.
I now own an older Frigidaire washer with the pulsamatic mechanism (which is very similar), and it has never gone off balance once.
The offending machine went to god decades ago but I'd love to know what its problem was.
Chris.
