Right now I am trying out a new Elite Gourmet burner. Quality is good for $12, the burner doesn't wobble around like customer complaints say it does- it now seems anchored in place. The burner itself is a bit uneven, and temp control is awful as it would be with an indirect bi metal thermostat- very long reset times and major temp swings. But it gets the job done and quality control is great and over all not bad for the price. I've used burners in the past that were 3 times more expensive and probably 5 times worse so I am not complaining. Cord looks like a golden sample btw, I really like it.

So overall you get your money's worth and I really like it for what it is.

With that said, can anyone recommend a really good burner money aside? What do you use or what do you use?

Electric Stove, and the burners are starting to burn out.

I personally will never use a flat surface burner stove ever again if I can help it. Elements shouldn't be burning out every half decade while being so difficult to replace.

Duxtop 1800 watt portable induction cooktop. I've had one for about 10 years and it's used regularly. Got it on Amazon back then. Shop around for best price. I only use the gas when I'm heating multiple items like for a holiday meal. It doesn't heat up the kitchen and it is FAST! I liked it so well I bought a set of induction compatible stainless cookware. If a magnet sticks to the pan it should work on induction. When it finally dies I may just run a 240 plug and get a commercial one with higher wattage and keep it beside the gas range. If I had the room I'd have a full induction cooktop on one side of my kitchen and keep a full gas range on the other.

I've been wanting to try a countertop induction unit but am scarce for countertop space.  Could set it atop the stovetop but the nearest 120v outlet that doesn't involve an extension cord is behind the refrigerator.

I set mine on the gas cooktop. A while ago I special ordered a custom solid black plastic cutting board from a seller on eBay that completely covers my stove top. When I need the gas I just pick it up and set it on the table. Otherwise it gives me extra counter space.
I took a heavy duty air conditioner extension cord and plugged it in the socket powering the stove then ran it up to come out right beside the countertop. That way I don't have any extra cords going across the counter.

If you need an extra cooking surface

I agree I would definitely get an induction portable unit far more efficient.

Chet your picture shows at all, that sauce pan should not be used on that portable element. It’s so warped that the element is glowing red hot. It’s no surprise that you’ve already ruined an element on that smooth top electric range.

It’s easy to replace those elements on the range in about 15 minutes. It’s very unusual to have them fail usually in the life of the range you’re only gonna have about one fail maybe.

The only possible use I could see for that $12 1 pound heating element is if I had to go backpacking somewhere and needed to cook something when I got there and I knew there was a 120 V outlet, lol

That must’ve taken forever to boil those eggs you need to follow directions better the eggs should just be barely covered with water. You don’t need to heat a quart of water to do two eggs.

I’m starting to find good used induction hot plates at thrift stores. If you don’t wanna spend the hundred bucks for a new one, I’m assuming your parents won’t let you touch any of their appliances because it would only take you 15 minutes and four screws to change the element on that stove.

Save up a grand . . .

. . . and take the ultimate plunge.  Especially if you're replacing an electric.

Not an affiliate link. No kickback for me.

What directions? The eggs should be covered in water as you see them here, add salt, bring to a boil, then reduce heat for 5 minutes and they are ready. It only took about 15 minutes for the water to come to a boil, it was not an issue.

The issue isn't the pan being uneven, but the cheap 12 dollar burner is wavy and uneven as I would expect it to be for that price.

The sauce pan you see is from a larger set that is over 40 years old and has been used practically everyday since. Nothing new can or will come close to that set.

That pan is not suitable for any electric stove. Take a picture of it with a straight edge across the bottom of it both ways, it’s a decent pan for a gas stove give it to somebody with a gas stove.

Any cookware today that is stainless steel will easily last 40 years and it won’t even have that crappy plastic handle that’s about to break.

To hard boil eggs, you should put them in the pan and just cover them with water. If you put more water in they float you should also have a lid on the pan. 15 minutes is ridiculous to bring two eggs to a boil that should be done in about three..

I take it you have never used vintage Revere Ware cookware, the best and most durable cookware ever made. Nothing crappy, and nothing that is going to break any time soon.

The bottom is straight and I know of nothing that restricts quality Revere Ware cookware to a gas range.

Yes I know the bottom is all enabled and burned up, but that is from over 40 years of hardcore use.

I find eggs cook best when just slightly floating. 15 minutes is not bad when you've got other items to cook and prep in the kitchen.

Wow, that $12 burner really is a POS

If a flat pan still allows, half of the element to glow red hot that’s dangerous. You should return it.

Yes, that is decent cooked where why don’t you take better care of it it looks like hell. I have a lot of that type of cookware.

I like your tastes John

The coil in indeed uneven, but given that its only $12 and free shipping I can't complain. You get what you pay for.

Yes the pan is beat up and was overheated in past, but you have realize it has taken over 40 years of the worst missbrauch at a time when I didn't know what I had. Any other set of pans and saucers would have been unusable by now.
