This evening I tried it in the Miele W1986 at 190F and it does not blow up at high temperatures with STPP. The 1986 went into the first spin directly after the wash with no foam generated by the Tide. By the second rinse there was a layer of suds one bubble high so it is rinsing out well. I tried to update the earlier thread but was not able to do so. I apologize for starting a new thread for a former topic. Anyway, the Powder Tide HE Turbo is what I had hoped it would be.

Nevermind how it works, what does it SMELL like? But really.......
The shelf choices of Tide (or ANY) powder are dwindling. There's a supermarket version of Persil powder but I can't find it.
Last couple boxes were Tide 'Ultra'. Smells like soap, not flowers. Fine. Does not foam with STPP, if anything STPP inhibits foam. I don't know exactly how hard the water is here, except that it makes nasty calcium deposits on everything and it takes hot vinegar to remove it. Plus a lot of scrubbing once barsoap scum and calcium carbonate glom together.
I use a very high detergent dose in a twintub, roughly double. According to the label, that makes it X12 but they don't really say what X1 is. A bar of Ivory?
What with the spin rinse, there's no standing foam left in the agitate rinse. But that's doing everything by hand; getting a programmed machine to do it reliably is going to be...... harder.

this version of Tide HE turbo powder kept up with Rosalie's in stain removal. It did have suds though - a modern drawback.
But this iteration works, we'll retest it in 6 months. They are notorious for introducing products with the full compliment of surfactants but I have noticed that down the road the surfactant load is lightened to increase profits. Remember it always says in the fine print they" reserve the right to alter, change or withdraw products at any time without notice".
So we'll look over Turbo next spring again. Till then happy washing.

The box says "original" which, I guess refers to the fragrance and it has the Actilift crystals. There is a slight, pleasant fragrance in the box, but none remains when the load is finished, perhaps due in part to the excellent rinsing of the Miele when programmed for sensitive rinsing. I got the Tide powder at a great price, $10 instead of $16 for the 68 load box.

I have never noticed that STPP inhibited foaming. Usually, if STPP is added, there is a chance that there will be slightly more foam because the water is more alkaline and minerals that would interfere with the detergent's action are tied up by the action of the STPP. That is why I was so happy that the new Tide HE Turbo powder did not go berserk with suds in the wash with STPP and 190F water. I remember the only time I tried liquid Tide HE in the Miele. It was like a whiteout in there as the water temperature climbed.
I will still rely on Rosalie's Zero Suds for the bath sheets. Only that and the Persil Powder can be trusted with those suds generators in the spin after the wash.

WAY over my head to explain it, Stan. But when I put the Tide in and agitate it by itself, it looks a little frothy. When I put the STPP in, the foam moderates. When I put the dirt in, there's very little standing foam at all.
And remember, this is with what would be a double dose of Tide in the small water volume, not labeled as 'HE', a scant tablespoon of STTP, and a half scoop (roughly a TBSP) of storebrand oxy. In a washer that is essentially a big kitchen blender with rounded plastic 'blades' instead of sharp metal ones, a virtual water tornado that should exaggerate any tendency to foam. The water is VERY slippery.

I would think it could be

Wonder what would happen if the STPP was added to the water first, agitated then add detergent? (That what I do) Would the results be the same?

Naw, just cuz I can mix oil and water into hand lotion from scratch after 99 tries doesn't mean I understand all the reactions/relations betwixt commercial surfactants, builders, boosters, minereals (sic) and foam. We don't know 'exactly' what's in Tide. And shoot, I can't even reliably make gravy.
I was as surprised as you were. Hypothetically, a double dose of Tide + STPP should explode into foam when churned. Like liquid dish soap did when I put it in the dishwasher at age 9. Good thing I already knew how to work a mop and sopped it up before anyone caught me.
Reminds me of a Beaver episode. "How did you get the floor so clean?"
