I don't see any cracks in the outer tub

and the black marks will be dirt, mine has them.

so basically it won't work cos the belt has come off

have you tried putting the belt back on? It will more than likely tumble again.

I dont think it will tumble because the motor wasnt even trying.It was just sat there full of water.The timer wasnt even moving.

I dont think the camera picked up the cracks.They might be just how it was made,you never know lol.

Well sounds like it needs new brushes and the belt refitting

Would have set you back less than a tenner and would have been easy to fit yourself on a machine with the motor at the top.

I suppose there is a small chance u blew the timer by running it with bad brushes, but I highly doubt it.

I think i did blow the timer...

A new one is on its way.I am curious about the machines suspension.It only has 2 suspension arms i think!

The vast majority of machines do and have done for a long ti

Hotpoints used to have 3 until 1981 I think.

Our WM52 was used for months with bad brushes (yes the wash results were awful, but we were living in Germany and couldn't get parts or a repairman) and it never damaged anything else on the machine.

The Ecologic also did a couple of loads on its bad brushes, totally fine, so I don't think you will have blown the timer, it's just a remote possibility.

Yes,ours was probably used for ages with knackered brushes too.I dont know what is wrong for sure but we are getting a new one.At the moment,i am having a look inside.

has it been struggling to tumble and/or making a sparking noise for a while then?

I'm tempted to offer to take the WM53 off your hands since your not very far from me. See what it needs doing.

I really don't have the room but I'm sure I could manage to fit it in the cupboard, anything's better than seeing it go to the scrap heap over a simple fault like brushes
