Laundromat,
I, too, know many Christians who aren't nasty pieces of work.
With the exception of my parents, all in my family, are, however, the worst mixture of fundamentalist-bible-thumping-gay-bashing-racists coupled with the most hypocritical Republican mentality you could ask for.
When you look at the way gays are treated in the US by Christians, I see no reason to pretend that the one or two decent Christians in the country are the majority. The majority are hatefilled monsters out to strip us of the very few civil rights we 'enjoy'. They torture us, deny us visitation rights in hospitals, ignore our wishes when we are on our death bed and do everything in their power to make life for us a living hell.
That's American Christianity in general. Maybe if a few more good Christians would stand up for us for a change it wouldn't be that way. But it is, so I shall continue to tell it like it is. You, my parents, many good folks here and the one or two other good Christians need not feel offended.
We have nothing to gain and everything to lose by treating those with respect who are actively working to keep us sub-human.
