Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I have never understood why radical christians are against Halloween. I go to church regularly, and I certainly say I am a Christian, and there's absloutely nothing in the Bible condemning Halloween! The celebration started as a harvest festival for one thing, a celebration of all that God bestowed upon us from the summer's work. Yes, some people have blown the whole thing out of proportion with witches, ghosts, demons and such, but if those things really bother you more than a quick scare, you are a weak christian anyways.

Yes, I get scared sometimes, it's usually a suprise though...Haunted housese and things are fun and exciting because they play on the fact that you are expecting something to happen...you just don't know WHAT or WHEN! The darkness, and sometimes fog adds to it, because it limits your senses to interpret the situation. Anything that reduces your mind's ability to know what's going on will cause fright! One of the things I enjoy about Halloween though is the production of it all. It's a multimedia extravaganza of lights, sounds, automiation, animatronics and other neat technology that I love!

My secretary put a plastic hand on the door to the shop that looks like it was dismembered. At first glance, It will really suprise you, especially since there's a lot of machinery in here. The first thing that comes to mind is OMG! One of my co-workers had an accident with a machine! Witches, ghosts, and all that have always been a part of Halloween. They are good for a nice quick fright, and a good laugh (Remeber Witch Hazel in the Buggs Bunny cartoon!?!?) If one is putting any more weight on these silly things outside of a good laugh and mere light hearted entertainment, they only have themselves to blame if they are concerned about the "spread of satainic rituals".

We've bee telling fairy tales for years and years that have evil characters in them, and I hardly see anybody around that was "warped" from this. In fact, most kids that had these stories told to them probably grew up BETTER because their parents were spending time with them having fun. It's the same group that is all up in arms about the popularity of Harry Potter, and the Lord of the Rings. While yes, these books are filled with evil stories and characters that are outside the Christiam realm, these people must realize that they are STORIES. This means they are FICTION. Nothing more than someone's wild, creative magination...enjoy it for what it's worth, and take a trip outside of reality! At least it is inspriring kids to read, verusus watch TV or play video games!

Symbols are what we make of them. For instance, everyone talks about chrystals being anti christian and such. Really folks, they are nothing but a piece of rock that yes, GOD created! If you want them to mean something else, that's YOUR problem, not mine! To me they are a pretty rock, let me enjoy them for what they are.

Halloween is a great chance to get out and get to know your neighbors. I chatted it up with many of my neighbors that were taking their kids around. I had some fun decorating the house too. I put my old Hammond Organ out on the front porch with some PVC pipe behind it. Inside the PVC pipe, I put some dry ice and a little water. Steam boiled out the top of the pipes. At the bench, I placed a big skeleton with his hands on the keyoard. I lit the whole scene up with a blacklight, and I had erie organ music playing through the outdoor speakers. Everyone thought it was awesome! I got lots of laughs, lots of smiles. Children that were suprised, amazed, and awestruck but quickly laughed and let out smiles and told me how cool it was! Isn't that what it's all about?? Absloutely nobody condemned me because I was "spreading evil", because nobody thought I was, and I wasn't, I was having fun!

Hope everyone here has had a great Halloween, I certainly did! Sorry for my ranting, but I did want to tell y'all 'bout what I did!

Peter in Atlanta, I am crack-ing up here.

Steve on Long Island I think I tried to E you but got an error message. check your email address and send me one.
Do you know where 112 Ocean Av is?

I'm not religious myself, but I agree that 99% of the Christians out there are not anti-Halloween. The ones who are the ones who get a lot of press because they love to sensationalize things, and that sort of behavior sells TV ads, and that's how they decide what is news these days. I do wish that the mainstream Christians would tell them to knock it off though.

The whole demon/witch/devil stuff is all in good fun. They are (at least in my opinion) mythological creatures, and nothing to get worked up about. I'm sure that whatever God is up there could care less about it, and probably enjoys the fun of the holiday. As usual, it's the humans that decide that they speak for him/her/it that mess things up.

It rained here last night (which is par for the course on Halloween in Seattle) but we still had a fair amount of kids come to the door. Our neighborhood has a lot of immigrant children, and a lot of them don't quite get the concept of Halloween. They come to the door in street clothes, and just stand there looking at you. But they're nice kids, and it's fun to joke with them and get them to say "trick or treat". Candy is, after all, the universal language ;-)

a mystery

Who lived at 112 Ocean Av. in a city on L.I. It fits with the whole Halloween theme here. You should know this Steve.
Hint: It is not in the Hamptons.
The true suspense continues!

Now I have to go see if Austin/Westypopover has let us in on his "new find"

Amityville

My grandfather lived two blocks away from the "horror house". We had to pass it every time we visited him. When the previous inhabitant massacreed his family, he ran into the bar/club my Grandfather hung out at and screamed someone killed his family. At least that's the story my grandfather told us. We were aware of the massacree years before the horror thing became well known.

Te he he he

When I was a kid suffolk county was considered outer Mongolia to us city folk. It's where the hippie teens graffittied the water-tower for lack of proper stimulation. (And thought it was exciting!)

Mike: easy on the kit-kats, with "people like you" (eyes roll) you get one then just crave another and another and another......MEOW.

The Amityville Horror.

Didn't this take place in the mid 70's?
HELL if my parents decorated like that I might have had to off them too.... well never mind. Actually they did and I didn't so forget I mentioned it.

The ineresting part of that book, BTW, IMHO was the discussion of demonology and possession by Jewish and Christian (various major branches) authorities.

Statues and stuffed animals are said to be un-cool in that diembodied spirits can animate them by drawing heat from the room as an energy source.

If it feel cold, smells like sh - - and just don't feel right--- get the heck outta there [unless you are a sewer worker in winter under the street of a northern city, of course....]

BOO!

At my church--

we celebrated! All of the children dressed for it, and so did a few adults. I put a (temporary) green streak in my beard. It was easiest. Trick-or-treat was Sunday afternoon.

We're observing "All Saints Day" this coming Sunday. One of the hymns will be "For All The Saints," and it always, always makes me cry (this bear has attended a few too many funerals.)
