I have never understood why radical christians are against Halloween. I go to church regularly, and I certainly say I am a Christian, and there's absloutely nothing in the Bible condemning Halloween! The celebration started as a harvest festival for one thing, a celebration of all that God bestowed upon us from the summer's work. Yes, some people have blown the whole thing out of proportion with witches, ghosts, demons and such, but if those things really bother you more than a quick scare, you are a weak christian anyways.
Yes, I get scared sometimes, it's usually a suprise though...Haunted housese and things are fun and exciting because they play on the fact that you are expecting something to happen...you just don't know WHAT or WHEN! The darkness, and sometimes fog adds to it, because it limits your senses to interpret the situation. Anything that reduces your mind's ability to know what's going on will cause fright! One of the things I enjoy about Halloween though is the production of it all. It's a multimedia extravaganza of lights, sounds, automiation, animatronics and other neat technology that I love!
My secretary put a plastic hand on the door to the shop that looks like it was dismembered. At first glance, It will really suprise you, especially since there's a lot of machinery in here. The first thing that comes to mind is OMG! One of my co-workers had an accident with a machine! Witches, ghosts, and all that have always been a part of Halloween. They are good for a nice quick fright, and a good laugh (Remeber Witch Hazel in the Buggs Bunny cartoon!?!?) If one is putting any more weight on these silly things outside of a good laugh and mere light hearted entertainment, they only have themselves to blame if they are concerned about the "spread of satainic rituals".
We've bee telling fairy tales for years and years that have evil characters in them, and I hardly see anybody around that was "warped" from this. In fact, most kids that had these stories told to them probably grew up BETTER because their parents were spending time with them having fun. It's the same group that is all up in arms about the popularity of Harry Potter, and the Lord of the Rings. While yes, these books are filled with evil stories and characters that are outside the Christiam realm, these people must realize that they are STORIES. This means they are FICTION. Nothing more than someone's wild, creative magination...enjoy it for what it's worth, and take a trip outside of reality! At least it is inspriring kids to read, verusus watch TV or play video games!
Symbols are what we make of them. For instance, everyone talks about chrystals being anti christian and such. Really folks, they are nothing but a piece of rock that yes, GOD created! If you want them to mean something else, that's YOUR problem, not mine! To me they are a pretty rock, let me enjoy them for what they are.
Halloween is a great chance to get out and get to know your neighbors. I chatted it up with many of my neighbors that were taking their kids around. I had some fun decorating the house too. I put my old Hammond Organ out on the front porch with some PVC pipe behind it. Inside the PVC pipe, I put some dry ice and a little water. Steam boiled out the top of the pipes. At the bench, I placed a big skeleton with his hands on the keyoard. I lit the whole scene up with a blacklight, and I had erie organ music playing through the outdoor speakers. Everyone thought it was awesome! I got lots of laughs, lots of smiles. Children that were suprised, amazed, and awestruck but quickly laughed and let out smiles and told me how cool it was! Isn't that what it's all about?? Absloutely nobody condemned me because I was "spreading evil", because nobody thought I was, and I wasn't, I was having fun!
Hope everyone here has had a great Halloween, I certainly did! Sorry for my ranting, but I did want to tell y'all 'bout what I did!
