As mentioned in another thread I bought some Halo Sports wash a few weeks ago, just out of curiosity and I am a sucker for any new product and it was £2.99 in Sainsbury's! Now, we don't have many items that you would class as "sports wear" but the fact the detergent states it has anti bacterial properties came in hand after being flooded by our neighbours, I used our dirty holiday clothes and all my towels mopping up the mess. I didn't expect great things for this detergent as it appears to be designed for synthetic clothing ( although it does say on the reverse that it can be used on all laundry ). I wasn't overly keen on the smell in the bottle, quite chemically but this does not linger on laundered items. I must say, it performed above my expectations, removing sunscreen from T-shirts, and salad dressing from a pair of shorts. I also tried it on hubby's Hi-vis jacket he wears when cycling. That was filthy, covered in road gunk and chain oil. I did soak the offending item in the sports wash for an hour then washed in the machine....to my utter suprise not one stain was left. Link to Halo Sports wash below.

I was impressed with this detergent so I went on Halo's website to see what else was on offer. I was suprised to see that the founder of Halo had been on Dragon's Den but had turned down the Dragon's offer initially ( not a program I watch ). Anyway I had a good look round the site, read reviews and decided to order some of the non bio detergent and some fabric softener.

The detergent smells lovely, has a kind of retro liquid detergent smell which is faintly noticeable after things come out the dryer. The softener also smells lovely, none of this fruits, flowers and jewels nonsense! Again for a non bio it performs well, am not overly concerned with the claims of it's germ kill properties but as part of my hubbies support workers job involves a degree of personal care it is reassuring to know there are no nasties lurking. I realise the marketing of this detergent is feeding into peoples obsession with killing germs but as I said I just bought the detergent as it was something new to try. No doubt I'll get board of it in time ( as I always do with laundry products!!!) but for now I am loving the clean vintage smell of this product.

@ PaulC Sounds a good buy! Regarding Persil 'Small and Mighty' in your other thread (which i can't find) you said it rinsed well in your soft water. Is there any suds or foam in the rinse water at all? I have crystal clear water on the rinses but foam on top but i am not sure that is water foam. It seems to rinse well though just curious to know where the foam comes from lol.

Persil Small and mighty was clear from suds after the second rinse in our soft water. I did not mention that using Halo I have clear water and no suds on the 1st rinse but that is not to say there are still chemical present in the water. I think Laundress explained the presents of suds in rinses, something to do with the suds depressants surviving the rinse phase. The way I see it is if you are not getting a reaction from the detergent it is rinsed out fine. The presents of bubbles in the rinse may just be due to the agitation.

BTW have you tried the Harveys washing powder yet? Would love to know how it faired especially as it claims to whiten better than Persil.

Have you ever tried dishwasher tablets? If you wash at 60°C I assume the blankets are at least colourfast. I suggest you to try dishwasher tablets, the cheapest you can find at supermarket: lots of enzymes to dissolve proteins, oxygen to bleach, and maybe also some sodium tripolyphosphate to further boost the action.

Very cheap and effective.
