Has anyone changed these before? My DG906 outer felt seal is pretty shredded, so I ordered another as well as a felt door seal. Seems like there are three seals to deal with. There is one that is perhaps 1 inch that goes around the drum that spins based on a diagram, mine was missing, but given to me in a part bag. There is one that goes between the door opening and the halo of heat housing and another big one, maybe 3 inches wide that goes on the Halo of Heat housing and the drum that spins.

The really big one is stapled(yes stapled) around the halo of heat housing every 4 inches,so, how do I replace that application? Should I pull the staples out when I get rid of the old felt seal and use the glue in the kit?

Any prior experience would be appreciated.
I will try some pictures but I have a fuzzy camera on the cell phone.

Thanks!

Philip

Old outer seal

The old outer shredded drum felt seal is/was attached by staples to the metal halo of heat housing that goes between the drum and the outer cabinet. It is really tattered and a new one is on the way, but how do I attach the new one?

pturo,
when I did my mom's DG700, I used Maytag high-temp adhesive in place of the staples. It held beautifully. I have to go back to Syracuse this coming weekend to fix the DG608! Belt trouble.

Thanks for the advise, Bobby in Boston. Thanks for the offer Coldspot, to send the pics. Neptune Bob, I can think of some other uses for the office stapler, like making my Haloween Costume. I think I am going to glue the thing and stitch in down with heavier thread using the two holes the staples caused in the metal to whip stitch the felt to the metal.

Phil, good idea with stitches. I never thought of that. With the combo of adhesive and thread, it should stay forever! BTW, your e-mail bounced back to me as undeliverable.

Thanks to Bobby and John(the diagram and instructions arrived today, thanks John, so much) the dryer is back in service and working wonerfully. I would never have been able to do this without this group. Are all people from Massachusetts as nice as you guys?

While I had the cabinet off, I dusted and pulled some terminals to clean, and when I pulled the terminal to the light ballast, the whole top of the thing came off. The ballast is toast. Any suggestions on a part for this? Doesn't look complicated, just two wires to a boxy thing and a screw down to the dashboard.(I call it that)

Can anyone help?

Well thanks Gansky, it does look simple, but perhaps a few mounting holes drilled in different to the top panel will not be a problem for the new ballast. It is just a flourecent light run off 110 current with two wires, not a lot different than my bathroom light, right? I agree, the control panel of this machine is graceful and classic and I would be a liar to say I was not proud. I will try ACE, but is there a special amperage or number or wattage I am looking for? Should I take the old one off an compare a number?

Thanks!

Phil

Phil,
absolutely, take the old one with you. It has to be the same as the old or you can do some serious damage. I would see if you could drill new holes into the wings of the new ballast before you drill into the top cabinet. If ACE doesn't carry what you are looking for, try Graingers or Royal electric on Wolf Street.
