Has anyone ever been to an Aldi?

Still waiting for Aldi to show up in my area.
I like aldi. I buy my eggs, sprouted grain low sodium bread, some vegetables and some staple packaged goods there. It is awesome. I was hoping to get one closer to me but it's worth the 15 mile drive.
I am also am waiting for and Aldi to open in my area. I shop at the Aldi in Menifee CA (not that far from Temecula CA). One of my favorite things from Aldi is Tandil Laundry Detergent. Tandil Liquid Laundry Detergent that is in the green jug is the same thing as Gain, and is identical to Gain Liquid Laundry Detergent! Tandil Lanundry Detergent that is in the red jug is Tide, and is identical to Tide. They also have Tandil Fabric Softener that is the same as Downey Fabric Softener, and is identical to Downey Fanric Softener!
Like Ralph (I live about 30 miles away) there's no Aldi here. However a mention was made of the house brands being good. I've noticed the same thing with various supermarket house brands. For example, I prefer the Safeway house brand frozen pizza (Safeway Select) to most "brand" names. Consumer Reports has also noted that a number of house brands are just as good as name brands. There may be some house brands to avoid, however. I found the cheapest house brand mayo from Smart and Final to be lacking in taste and quality.

Well, Fred's has their version of "Gain" as does Walmart...they are all made by Sun...who also makes Aldi's Tandil. Sun also makes CVS's Basic brand and Target's Up and Up.
They also have some god awful dishwasher detergent. Bought it as I was out and did not want to go tho another store, bad move. Used it a couple of time and tossed it, not worth returning. Back to Cascade Complete....

I've been to Aldi several times, and really didn't like the things I bought.
Yes, they're cheap. But they also tasted cheap to me as well. And I thought many of the stuff was just too "processed" to want to eat on a regular basis.
The produce kinda tasted terrible.
Their mayo was weird.
Just my experience.

We have ALDI in Rio Grande, about 4 miles from Cape May. I first encountered ALDI visiting Glassboro, NJ. I am very pleased with their products and produce. ALDI is a great place to stock up on pantry staples. Compared to the other grocery stores in the area, their produce lasts MUCH longer. I find their meats quite good and the prices the same. You won't find everything at ALDI but what you do find will help cut your grocery bill.
I have a neighbor that has a Bed and Breakfast. She gets much of what uses for breakfast at ALDI and is saving abou $40/shopping trip over what she spent at the other stores in the area.

Maybe I should give Aldi another chance...?
I had heard about Aldi from both coworkers and here on AW. There's one about 5 miles away, so a couple months ago I decided to go check it out since I had some shopping to do. We walk in and it looked clean, but spartan, almost as if it were a temporary store like those that open in the malls only for the Christmas season.
My shopping list had 9 or 10 things on it and we walked around the store looking for them. I was disappointed I could only find 2 of the items on my list, so we looked around the rest of the store. Many unknown brands and other products I'd probably never buy. Honestly I didn't look too closely at the prices as I didn't have any in my head for comparison.
The produce did look pretty nice and the prices seemed OK, but again, limited selection. Any other grocery store has a much larger variety to choose from. We did buy a couple things to try, but at that point I decided they didn't offer enough selection of anything, to make me want to go back. I would always have to go to another grocery store to get the items Aldi doesn't carry.

Aldi does not have everything, but they have a lot of good things that are just as great as the name brands. Tandil Laundry Detergent thet have at Aldi is basically Tide and Gain liquid, and it works just as good as Tide and Gain!

Aldi here has really good produce. It is always nice and fresh and tasty. Everything else I have tried of their brand has been good too. They are inexpensive compared to most other places. They do have a very limited selection and many things they simply do not carry. But what they do have is quite good. Their meats are good too. Just much more bang for the buck.

I really should not put off the recent green light I received from the doctor for surgery, but friends thoughtfully say "once you have a spinal operation you may never walk again"...how kind of them. </span>

Closest Aldi is 40 miles, haven't been there. 24hr WM is 1.9 miles and a fantastic regional grocery is 3.3 miles.
