Has anyone ever been to an Aldi?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

We have Aldi all over the area. Never been in one and am not really in a hurry to go to one but with some of you guys talking them up lately I'm at least somewhat curious to see what it's all about.
I know my mother hates them but I don't think she's been in one in years.

it may not be for everyone.....but for every store I have visited, there seems to be a lot of foot traffic for something that some may find not appealing!

for one thing, they seem to hire some of the friendliest employees.....not to mention they are QUICK on those registers....and that's compared to most any other store you go into...like Walmart

yeah, you got to get past the .25 for the cart rental....you have to buy paper/plastic and bag yourself, big whoop!....or you could bring your own....still a big plus over those flimsy plastic bags you get anywhere else...

they change up a bunch of stuff on occasion, just for a bit of variety.....but for staples like bread, milk, and eggs.....they are cheaper than most any other store around, and were not talking nickels and dimes, but serious dollar stretching....

you could take the label off of Hellman's mayo....and place it on their jar....no one would know the difference.....

and yeah, the Tandil detergent is TIDE.....we compared samples at several wash-ins, no one could tell which was which!

One of my neighbors LOVES Aldi-I haven't been there-its just to inconvenient for me to go there-Same with Lydals and the new Publix.I don't want to try to have to go on a BUSY road to get to and from those places.Food Lion is MUCH MORE convenient to me.You don't have to fight traffic to use them!

our aldi

was just remodeled and enlarged to accommodate a new selection of wine as our citizens recently voted to allow wine sales in grocery stores. We don't drink it so I could care less, but it made the store nicer. I like some of their cookies, cakes, and pastries that come from Europe. I've bought real bratwurst and sauerkraut that were made in Germany. Their salsa is quite good. It's the same when I go to a Save-A-Lot...there are things I have tried that I like and will buy again, but then there are others that I would never buy again. I love the smell of Aldi's mountain fresh Tandil fabric softener.

There is one in the city I live and go by it on a daily basis. Have not stopped in as of yet. Parking lot never seems like it has that many cars in it. I mainly shop at Hannafords and Market Basket. I have so many errands to run that I don't have time to shop in 2 stores for items that I can get in 1.

Ja wohl...aber nur in Deutschland

No Aldis yet in my area---possibly because Aldi Nord-owned Trader Joe's has reached saturation in my area. I wonder if Aldi Süd---which operates Aldi-branded stores in USA---has a non-compete agreement with Aldi Nord??

Exactly,

they don't open self competitors within close distance to each other.

Has Aldi began accepting credit cards yet? I don't usually carry cash, so have not been in a while.

Our Aldi opened around 2009? It's being expanded now. I have been inside a time or two but never bought anything. Their flyers sometimes have interesting hard goods as well in them, small appliances, shelving, garden stuff.

I heard their produce is good, we have purchased a few hams from there which were quite good.

Credit Cards

Yes, Aldi began accepting the March, 2016. I only go when my partner is here. Just too difficult for me to bag with the cane. He has them back home and loves to go to them for certain things. When he moves here, I'm sure we'll go more often. My regular store (HEB) and Aldi are about a mile within each other. I can see us going to Aldi and getting there what we can and then going to HEB for the rest. Have gotten a couple of pies and cakes at Aldi.

Bob...

...bagging with a cane, oh do I hear you! My crunching, painful left rotator cuff along with my screwed-up back makes simple things like grocery shopping difficult too...especially being left-handed. I will have to re-think my Aldi shopping trip. I worry about falling too..."old man down on aisle three, bring a mop"...

That might explain why we don't have Trader Joe's close to where I live, there's like 3-4 Aldi stores within 15 miles of each other.

for you guys who have issues with the bagging.....

in fact I got ones similar to these from ALDI.....

they hook over your cart.....for the ones I got, three hook on across the top.....

you shop and place items in these bags.......then place items on the conveyor belt for checkout....and as the cashier rings you through, all items are placed back inside the carriers by the cashier....

you then wheel out to your car, lift the handles, and each unit is placed from the buggy to your car....

and easy to carry into the house......

this sort of saves you from having to load the items onto the conveyor, and then unload again in order to bag everything....

Dollar General Food store

There has been a DG Food Store in the next little city from us for some time. Went in yesterday for the first time. Kinda neat. Limited selection but the produce was fresh, they had pineapples for $1.00 ea. No fresh meat but a good selection of frozen meats that looked good. They have their own labels on some stuff. It's not an Aldi but at least it's an option.

Whenever I go to Aldi's I can always find a box that is appropriate for what I need, much like at Sam's club. Another inexpensive grocery store we have here is Sav a Lot. I buy a lot of meat and canned goods there. They have many of the national brands and their own store brand also, which is significantly cheaper. They have some kind of steak on sale every week. I have gotten boneless ribeye steaks for $4.99 a pound many times and T bone steaks for $3.99 a pound. You just can't beat that price! And you don't have to bag your own groceries or pay to get a cart either.

now that's interesting Bruce.....

We have three Save-A-Lot's around here.....and you have to rent the cart as well as bag your own groceries.....could be one of those things by geographical areas...

I like when they have the 10lb bag of chicken legs for 3.90.....that's .39 cents a pound...that's when I stock up...

I love Our Local Aldi

Since they opened ours about 3 years ago I have done 90% of my shopping there, not only are they almost 25-50% less expensive but you also really save TIME, I can leave my house fill an entire cart and be checked out and have all the groceries home in my kitchen ready to finish putting away in about 1/2 hour.
