Has anyone had any experience with the Thor Washer/Dryer combo

Thor makes a washer and dryer in one machine. It requires no vent and seems reasonably priced at $1,295. I figured it would be cheaper than buying a brand new washer and dryer seperate and I like the idea of saving space with only one machine. I was curious if anyone has one of these and if so, how is the quality? I know Thor made the first electric washer ever, but I know the quality of appliances has gone down over the years. Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my question.

If your are looking at the 110 volt

washer/dryer, it will dry very slowly. My Mom has an Equator 110v washer/dryer, and it takes 2.5 to 3 hours to complete a load. What you save in space, you will loose in time.

On top of the extremely long cycle times, they can only be loaded halfway as the clothes need room to tumble around while drying and on top of that, they are of very small capacity to begin with.

Combo!

I do like the combo theory. I had 2 of them. The 1st one was a Equator that was great and I should never have given it up. Than I bought a LG and it was a service nightmare. LG has the worst available service. I dumped it over a year ago and have been using public laundry since. I want to replace it but don't know what to buy. I can live with the long drying times but now most of the machines have really long washing and rinsing times. I want one that will do the wash / rinse faster. A combo works for me because I hang dry a lot of my clothes. I dry a few things like towels sheets and underware. I want to get one with a decent capacity. I am currently considering the equator or splendide. I am just concerned about the servicing. It is disappointing that frigidaire or whirlpool don't make a combo.

I don't know if there are exact equivalents in the USA at the moment, but I would try to get a machine with the largest drum capacity possible.

In Europe there are now a few machines that have very large drums in a standard cabinet which offer washer-dryer functionality.

For example, the Hotpoint Aqualtis washer dryer does up to 8kg (17.63lbs) of washing and 6kg (13.22lbs) of drying in a 62L drum packed into a single dishwasher-size standard European Unit.

It also offers a 6kg+6kg automatic cycle where it will wash and dry 6kg of clothes without any need to do anything other than set the machine.

It also offers a 1400rpm spin and full sensor drying and has extremely intuitive digital controls and over 16 programmes + a wide variety of sensor dry levels.

There must be something similar in the US. They're fantastic machines for apartment living.

Comes with a price tag of up to €905 though (US$1353)

Problem with large capacity front loading washing machines sold in the United State is quality varies. Some such as Speed Queen and Miele use commercial quality construction including bearings. Many, many others use cheap components and even worse the tubs and bearings are one assembly. Thus when the cheap bearings go(and they will), one has to replace the entire unit as the cost of repair will easily exceed a new washer. That is if the unit is designed for repair, most aren't.

One can replace the bearings on a Miele, it isn't easy, and most Miele repairmen will try to talk one out of it, but it can be done.

Combo!

This looks like a real nice combo. The new Malber being introduced has a simular capacity. I have not seen it as of yet. I also don't want to be the gunie pig like I was with that LG. It also looks like Asko is comming out with a new combo and it looks different than that distarous Eurotech model. So that maybe a possibility also. Haier has a nice one with a lot of flexability hwd1000 but has a really small interior. So I will continue to shop around.
