As of yesterday, 2/11/13, certain words in the forums and even in private messages in AW have been highlighted. If you hover your cursor over them a pop-up ad appears. I thought if you were a paying member you would not see ads. Anyone else experiencing this?

Really, that should absolutely not be going on, the ad servers cannot reach upgraded members unless they have that turned on, nor would I allow text-context ads to be shown like that. Can I have an example of a post and words that is happening in. I will investigate.

Has this been happening to anyone else?

Ha this been happening to you?

No not that, but what has been happening is if I search for something like rollermatics, it will take me to the list of threads. When I choose a thread, it takes me too my choice, however when I hit the back button, it takes me back to the search page instead of the page of the other threads for rollermatic. Is it just me?

Responded to you Louie, I suspect what you are seeing is an issue with a Firefox extension. It has been reported that ad on's to Firefox such as Vidsaver (a youtube video downloader) reads your pages locally on your computer looking for certain key words and serves up an ad like that. See this article: http://wafflesatnoon.com/2011/10/05/seeing-unwanted-text-enhance-ads/#comments

Marty it sounds like to me that the Search is opening a new screen, to go back to the original screen you need to go back to the original page. If you use the upper search box this wont happen as it opens in the same screen. If you use the lower search box it will happen. Try both and see...

Marty

Robert,
I did as you said, tried both ways. When I tried the top search box with rollermatic, it took me to the options of threads. I choose a thread, and when finished viewing, hit the back arrow, and it takes me to an advanced search page with empty boxes. If I click the back arrow again, it takes me to the page where I originally typed the words for the search. Problem is if I am on page 15 of a search, I have to start all over again as I loose my place. When I tried the google box, it didn't make me search all over. It never used to do this before till recently. Hope this helps.

You're right Robert!

It's called the coupon drop down virus. I thought it was an issue with AW since it appeared here first. Sorry for jumping the gun and thanks!

This is the only place on earth......

where the webmaster will jump in and personally help you. More than once he has shown me the way. Robert thank You! arthur

Yay Louie, I'm glad you figured out the fix, I very much dislike in-text hover based ads.

Marty, I tried what you are doing on 2 windows computers, an iPad and iPhone to replicate what you are seeing and I cannot. I was able to do a search, click a few pages down in the search findings, click on a thread from the search list and using the back-arrow it backs through all the pages in the reverse order they came. I suspect it is something locally for you, can you try a it on different computer or device?

and thank you Arthur :-)

Big Brother is watching you! There is an ad. featuring a little girl with a bald head which I first saw on this site but now seems to follow me round on YouTube and other sites. I suppose there are not enough flesh and blood people to spy on all the other people like in Orwells prophesy but it is easy enough to create spybots to watch everyone online and create customised spam

Thanks for the info

I had this same problem with my old computer in December right before I replaced it. The problem wasn't restricted to the AW site; it happened on some other sites. The Firefox thing fits; I was using Firefox before it happened and have stopped using it.
