Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

This is a cool washer. Our local Habitat Re-Store got a matched set like this about a month back. $60 each. The washer sold about 2 weeks ago after a half-price sale, the dryer is still there.

My next-door neighbour had this exact model

of machine. It's BOL, or darn near. Never quiet, it was LOUD when it got old. Hers ran without trouble for 20 years.

It's from the early 70s.

She would go away for the summer, and when she was gone, she asked me to run it once a month. (Not being a fool, I would take over a load of sturdy cottons. It worked well, but did not have a slow speed.)

If I had the room, I'd be interested, because it's not too far from here, but I do not have room.

This was a very popular model in it's time. I knew several people that had this model. I would say it is middle of the range for that era.

What I find interesting about the feature mix is five temp combos, but only two water levels. It also looks to be a SudsMiser model -- notice there appears to be text ("Suds") in the space before the Normal cycle, which would be blank if it wasn't.

My Mom had this exact machine. She bought it in 1972. It worked without fail doing laundry for 6 kids and 2 adults for 11 years. She loved it. I would get frustrated with it because of it's only 2 water level selection. But other than that it was a really good machine. And yes, sudssaver. its spin wasn't the greatest, not that the clothes were ever sobbing wet, but other machines at that time had a much better spin.

My Uncle had this stupid machine and its mate. Bought them to replace his Classic Frigidaire W0-65. They only lasted 9 years. Told him to buy a Maytag but he insisted on buying Whirlpool. Has had three different sets in 30 years.

Wish I had had the foresight to make him keep the Frigidaire. He was an antique collector too.

I'd like to know as well.

Personally I think it's quite cool-looking and if I stumbled across one down here I'd have to grab it.

These machines deserve a lot more credit than they usually get because considering their design, they are pretty damn reliable.
