Last week I changed my old gas heater with a new Vaillant condenser unit. It also can be linked to a solar panel sys
I' m considering to install this next spring
Have you got any experiences ?

At my parents we have a solar collector since 1994 and it works great! It preheats the water for the boiler and from eary may to late september the gas consumption is ZERO, I mean, even if we leave the boiler on, it never really heats anything except when we call in the recirculator to have instantaneus hot water at the faucet but, when there are around 40°c warm water is something you'd like to avoid. Before installing it we had bills of around 180.000/200.000 lire (that is 100-210 euros in 1994) because of electric water heating, for the following year, 1995 we had 6 bills with 0 lire to pay, since the company overbilled us because they didn't know that we had installed. Solar collectors are usefull even in the darkest winter, they manage to keep water at 30-35 °c even when it rains or sky is cloudy. We only bypassed them during the only week that it snowed for a couple of days. Now, you can get a much more efficent system for half the price and best of all, completely integrated with your boiler. Well worth the investiment! You will get back the money spent in no more than 3-4 years!

solar water heating is the way to go.....

you'll have payback on the solar water heater in about 3.5 years approximately. Its the quickest payback of any "green" system. I have friends with them that have had them for many, many years. Unfortunately in my neighborhood we're currently zoned against having them on our roof (but hopefully this will change soon).

Whaaaat?

I can't believe that one can't put a solar collector on his roof! That should be at least illegal! I can't believe it! :-O

Eh! :D Gabri.... le leggi stupide sono mica solo in Italia!!

Here you are what american friends are called to do for drying their clothes hung out on the line dry, and not only for those who live in condos is like so, but I heard about restrictive laws and rulse either for backyard hanging out.

At end, considering here in Italy many old building cities have historical preservation (Sovrintendenza ai Beni artistici e Culturali), I would not be amazed of a such forbidden here too concerning the solar board on roof top!
