I know it's probably a sin, but with no replies, I'm reposting my request for help with an urgent subject line. Happy to confess it next time I go, but in the meantime, y'all please forgive me and help me out! Thanks.
Oh, help!
My Kitchen Aid mixer is making a terrible racket, and the holidays are coming. Kelly said it was probably the worm gear, and wasn't a big deal to replace. I'm thinking a pro-active solution might be a good idea because my dear husband suffers from "fear of Sunbeam." Despite my generous supply, he's afraid one will break while he's using it, and I will never forgive him. Never mind that's what the spares are for, holiday marital harmony depends on the functional Kitchen Aid.
I've looked on Amazon and notice that they have a plentiful supply of gears--fiber and metal--worm drive and pinion gear assemblies and gear grease. Prices for what appear to be the same item vary dramatically. I'm guessing fiber is the best choice because it can be the sacrificial part that saves the machine sort of like Whirlpool washer dogs. (Some of you may remember that I used to be an egregious washer overloader. You'll be glad to know that Kelly cured me of that problem before I bought the Speed Queens. I am treating them with loving care)
Can y'all please give us some guidance on how to figure out what the problem is, what to order and possibly how to fix it?
I'm thinking a breakdown and repair during the break between Thanksgiving and Christmas is a good plan.
Many thanks,
Sarah
I have a video that I can post (although I've never done that before, would I use YouTube?).
