Help please...urgently seeking Manual for Hotpoint Super Electronic 1852

Hello,

please can anyone help? I recently bought a house, and acquired with it a Hotpoint Super Electronic washing machine model 1852.

I have been searching online in vain for user instructions, and came across the history of Hotpoint washers here. I learned that the 1852 dates bacl to 1983, and that other people, like me, have broken the hinge cover, thinking it was the door handle.

My washer seems to work fine, although I have no idea how to use it - and my partner has fixed the broken hinge cover.

If anyone here could suggest where I might find an instruction card or manual I would love to keep using this lovely machine.

Hello Alison

I can help you with the programming for your Hotpoint 1852

As it being a pre-1987 machine, it uses the old ITCL programme coding, and is very simple to use, the ITCL is as follows...

Cottons Section:

Before the Cotton programmes there is a program with a washbowl with its own spin, this is a 40* prewash.

1-White Cotton 95*
2-Colourfast Cotton 60*
5-Non-Colourfast Cotton 40*
The Shower symbol is the rinses.
The Flower on the dial is softener rinse.
The Swirly thing at the end is the spin - 800RPM

Synthetics Section:

3-White Nylon 60*
4-Synthetics 50*
6-Acrylics/Delicate 30* (could be 40*)
The Shower symbol is the rinses.
The Flower on the dial is softener rinse.
The Swirly thing at the end is the spin - 500RPM.

Wool Section:

7-Machine Washable Woolens 40*
The Shower symbol is the rinses.
The Flower on the dial is softener rinse.
The Swirly thing at the end is the spin - 800RPM

Option Buttons:

Economy Wash - Fills up from the incoming water supply and therefore doesn't heat up the water, ideal for lightly soiled loads.

Half Load - When selected it cuts down the water level and wash time, for if the load is half full.

Slow Spin - Reduces spin speed from 800RPM to 500RPM for delicate fabrics.

Door Release - I guess you found that out the hard way

Soap Tray:

Left Back: Fabric Softener
Left Front: Prewash
Right: Main Wash

800RPM Fast Spin
4.1KG Cotton Wash Load, 2.1KG Synthetics, 1.5KG Woolens.

Hi Alison.

Jacob has done the hard work with the programming, so you now have a good guide.

I have just dug out the manual and will try to post it for you over this coming weekend, so keep checking back every now and then. I will post it when I can.

Reiterating Jacob's final sentence - when the time comes to replace your 1852, don't immediately dump it as there might be someone on here who will be able to give it a good home.

You have a good machine in the 1852 and here is to many more years of service.

p.s you might be able to solve a mystery concerning the 1852! Is your machines bodyshell white, or is it Spring Almond (a sort of yellowy cream colour)?

Hi Jacob & Paul,

many thanks for your kind and helpful replies - I will look forward to using my 30 year old Hotpoint, now that I have instructions! It would be great to see the manual too, if it is possible to post that online.

Somehow, housework is more fun with vintage machines - I also acquired an interesting old tumble dryer with the house, a Burco D3, which dates from the early 60s I think?

It too is in good working order, and I haven't broken anything yet! There is even a light inside that goes on when it is opened.

Regarding the colour of the Hotpoint, it is not white, but more like a creamy fawn colour, I guess that's Spring Almond.

Burco Drier

Congratulations on both the Hotpoint and the Burco drier.

You are right in that it dates from the early to mid-1960s - this is one "flavour" of a machine which was produced for a number of manufacturers in the early 1960s - see the link below.

Grand that it is still working for you, but again, if you should decide to replace it, please let us know. We will have to get you fixed up with a vintage vacuum too .....

Parnel Tumble Dryer At Work

Well I was busy sorting out the fridges today at work and found this lovely old Parnel tumble dryer in amongst them Looks to be in good condition, made in Bristol on the ratings plate. Only thing is it smells of disinfectant ????? a bit wiffy to say the least so i drove home with the windows...

Here you go Alison!
The instruction manual that applied to the 1852.

Don't be fooled by the appearance of the manual and the fact that its emphasis lays with the later Hotpoint 95-series 'New Generation' machines, like the one on the front cover.
Your 1852 and the similar model 18381 were produced right at the end of 18-series production and, rather than create individual 18381 and 1852 instruction manuals, Hotpoint took all their new 95-series dial controlled machines, the 18381 and the 1852 and combined them all into one instruction manual.
The programming of most dial controlled Hotpoint's of this era was the same sooooo, here you are - the manual....
