Anyone have any suggestions on how to clean up the white perforated wash basket on a Maytag? The finish isn't smooth and it has become discolored...I am guessing hard water stains. I figured something like CLR would work on the stains, but what about getting the tub back to smooth again? Can you have it painted, or is that a bad idea?

Try white Vinegar and baking soda first. then scrub till your heart is content with lime away and or clr.

Fighting Hardwater

Mom's water is hard enough to break a hammer when you hit it with it. She always used lime-away in her WASH to keep from having the rust and minerals settle on the clothes (Yes, white socks didn't stay around long, either they turned orange or the lime-away ate them up!)

Anyhow, she actually destroyed the coating on the tub over the years with her chemcial cocktail!

When it finally died, it was truly beyond belief!

Perhaps the porcelain is etched and rough. Or coated with calcium and detergent residue that left a rough film. Try this highly effective product available at WalMart.
