Hey all,

I'm going to try to post these as Dropbox links in MP3 format, so hopefully they will be viewable to all.

I wrote a couple weeks ago about my Maytag A112 making strange sounds--grinding/scraping--at the beginning of agitation, and then again during drain. However, I don't feel I was explaining it properly, so I decided to make some audio of exactly what's going on. There is no video, but I believe the audio should give you guys a good idea of what I'm hearing.

The first clip, posted below, is the washing filling and heading into agitation. If you listen through to the end, you will notice how the scraping sound fades as the agitation picks up speed, almost like the washer is finally getting it's footing.

Anyway, here is the first link. The second one, of the washer in drain mode, will be in the reply below. If someone could please let me know what might be happening, and whether you feel the machine can indeed be repaired having now heard the noises, I would appreciate it a lot.

And here it is during the drain cycle...

Below is the second clip, this time the washer is ending agitation and heading into the drain cycle. I elected to include the end of the agitation cycle, so that you guys can hear that the agitation is brisk and without any problems by this point. The scraping/grinding sound comes back prominently when drain starts, but goes away completely again as the washer picks up speed, heading into spin.

Please feel free to ignore the conversation in the background during the pause between agitation and drain. My wife was talking to me about trading in an iPad, and I couldn't edit it out, so I apologize if that's at all distracting.[this post was last edited: 5/22/2022-20:54]

Here is beginning of agitation again, in a sharable format

It occurred to me that I didn't make those links sharable, so others aside from me might not be able to view them properly. So in case that happened, here is the first link again, as a sharable version.

I hate Dropbox...

So I realized I had to go back in and make the links sharable, because others would not be able to view them otherwise, and in doing so, Dropbox reversed them, even though it somehow didn't reverse the titles. So, the fill/agitation is actually in the reply, while the second link, the drain cycle, is in the original post, even though the labels say otherwise.

Technology is definitely not my strength, ugh.

Anyway, just listen to the second link first, then the one in the original post to make sense of it. It will take you to a Dropbox link that I made public, and you should be able to just hit preview in order to play the media.

Scraping noise on a dependable care Maytag

I only listened to the second link the only thing I heard was a slight noise from the motor pulley where the belt is slipping on it as it starts off.

It’s a completely normal sound you could have a little bit of rust on the pulley which is making that funny little sound as it starts up and gets going.

If you want to tilt the machine back and check for rust on the pulley sand that off carefully make sure the belt is good, it certainly doesn’t sound like anything to worry about as long as the machine is functioning.

Thank you...

Thanks for this, I won't worry about it if you don't think it's any big deal.

I thought I'd deleted this post. I posted another thread with the links in the proper order as I finally figured out what the hell I was doing with Dropbox, if anyone is interested.
