This looks like some kind of Mad Men parody ad, but apparently it is real. The most terrifying box of detergent ever.

"In the name of Lever Brothers, I vow to make your laundry feel soft!"

Trademark registration filed November 1967 -- expired 1992.

When Bold was introduced in the late Sixties, it was supposed to have fabric softener, right? This must have been Lever's me too product.

They certainly spent a lot of money on that ad...it wasn't just Phyllis Diller or Sheila McRae standing over a washing machine.

P&G started adding fabric softener to Bold (which was renamed Bold ) around the mid to late 70's. When a friend of mine tried it, he never used anything else (I also recall his SEVERE dislike for Tide).

Here's a commercial from 1984.

Funny - the Canadian Tire chain here in the Great White North has been using the brand name 'Hero' for cleaning products for a few years now.  It's all made in China - I've never tried any of the products though.
