Hobart UM-4 Motor Needed!

Help! I have a Hobart UM-4 machine whose motor went up in smoke a couple of years ago. The dishes have been done by hand since then. I am now faced with either replacing the machine or repairing the classic UM-4 that I have. I can't seem to find a motor anywhere. Hopefully someone here will be able to point me in the right direction. Are there anay other machines with available motors which are compatible? Are there any UM-4 motors stashed away out there anywhere? Can these motors be rebuilt? Everything else about the machine is fine, even upgaded the timer control a few years back. Thanks for any response that might come.....

First of all, the UM series production ended in 1979 though there were probably thousands of them out there still chugging away. Many lasted well into the 90's!
The parts were available until 1994. There are no longer any motors available thru Hobart. Just for the record, the part number for the motor was 070380-1.
When last available, that motor was nearing 800 bucks. That would be brand new in the box and would have the gaskets, mounting plates and shaft seal in the box.You may find someone who still has one of these fine machines who will be willing to part it out.

What exactly is wrong with the motor? Is it a motor which has the start relay mounted on the frame or a later version with the start switch on the bottom of the motor?

Either one can be rewound but finding the old start swtich may be difficult unless the motor shop can find one.

Any Kitchenaid dishwasher from the model 11 thru 14 as long as it has the vertical motor will be a direct fit into your machine and we know there are those machines out there. You will probably have to make up your own gaskets but that isn't too hard.

I am sure you will find someone on here willing to let a motor go.

There are still 6 shaft seals available at 51.70 each thru various Hobart offices. The part number for it is 077107.
