Hobart UM-4D

I have a Hobart UM-4D that was in my home when I purchased it. It seems to be having an issue with the mechanism that controls the solenoids that let the water into the machine. I was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere that I could find some info on these machines. I have tried looking online but have not been able to find much on these.

A Golden Oldie!

Considering that the machines were last built in 1979 or thereabouts, you would be hard pressed to find anything on them even from a Hobart Technician. Most of the guys who work at Hobart as techs would not even recognize the model number and they are not even taught about them in service training school anymore.

These are the machines that the originalk KitchenAid KD10 thru 14 series were based on.

What exactly is it that you need to or want to know. I can help you with most of that and maybe suggest work-arounds for what you may need.

Oooooooooh...

A UM4-D.

One of my Favorite Hobarts. D is for Dual Water Inlets. You had a 150 degree line for the Wash and then a 180 degree for the Rinse.

3 1/2 minute cycle. These machines are great as long as the water is around 150.

Not much to these but parts are hard to find.

Comes to mind that a member here Bobbins was rebuilding a UM 4. I wonder how he made out ?

I am having issues with the part that controls the solenoids that let the water in. It seems to work if I manually turn the controller(the round white plastic piece that engages the switches) but the little gear that turns them does not seem to work.

I was hoping to try to find some sort of older repair guide or something that may help me narrow down a avenue to get it working agian.

Sounds like the timer.

Dr. Bombay, I mean stevet would likely know what's going on. My guess that a timer would be rather scarce at this point.

Maybe Midwest timer could rebuild it or others might chime in on timer repair.

Check flea-bay for a timer.

Ok Ill take a look into that. Thanks for the input. I know most anything for this will be pretty difficult to source. But I thought it would be pretty awesome if I could get it up and running as a Bar dishwaser(and the idea of a 3 1/2 min cycle sounds pretty nice as well).
