Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Bendixmark

I'm still interested since it's in great shape, might be something fun to have parked next to my daily driver, since I don't use my dryer. What would it entail getting it shipped down to Houston? This would be my first vintage machine....I also assume all yall would be a wealth of information if I was able to get it ;-)

takacedon,
be looking to spend several hundred dollars to have it shipped from a shipping company. Well, what are you waiting for? HAVE BENDIXMARK GO GET IT FOR YOU!!!!!!!

Bendixmark,
Thanks soooo much, but if takacedon REALLY wants it, i'm no longer interested.

shipping Ge combo

I always recommend Microship they will wrap it up and bring it to you and they are very reasonable pricewise or I could go get it and store it for someone to get it from me whoever wants it.The machine is in repairable condition it just doesnt spin somebody here must know how to remedy this. These machines are very rare and more so to find one that isnt wrecked also from being in a damp basement or garage for years.I would call the people right away as they said if they didnt get any offers they were going to junk the stuff. To answer the other question the machine is located off Edgell rd. on frost st. near tr. 9.Microships number is 630 833 7770.

You won't believe this

Someone from the forum here just emailed me about a 1955 Westinghouse set only 500 miles from me, I hope this isn't too good to be true.

or, maybe, the world's only plumber that works on a Sunday that's a holiday. Nice guy. When I got to Framingham, having driven for 3 hours, I was unable to get in touch with Mike, the guy who owns the house, who said his wife would be there to meet me. I was late, and thank god this guy was friendly enough to call Rachel, who came to meet me. Nice young couple buying and renovating their first home. Somebody had the smarts to keep the old appliances rather than tossing them in the dumpster. The Combo looks really good:

The latest temptation of Ken:

Want to steal chrome knobs, want to steal chrome knobs, could really use chrome knobs, want to steal chrome knobs, mustn't, mustn't mustn't steal, oh so want to steal chrome knobs....

OK, so I came for the dishwasher which, I kinda already knew from the picture wasn't an Empress, but hope springs eternal. But before we get there, the wall-mount refrigerator is very nice:

Looks pretty good, the inside liner doesn't appear to be cracked anywhere in the fridge section or the freezer. One of the doors needs a new gasket and a couple of the lexan parts are cracked, but most things that should be there are there. I'm considering this. Unfortunately, I didn't have space in the truck or I might have sprung for this:

I was considering the oven, but, being the picky bastard I am, I wanted at least a window in the door or a rotisserie in the oven. This had neither, so I passed even though I could have gotten it for a song:

OK, so back to the pull-out. I was hoping, realistically, for a 1959 "Princess" with the original silverware basket, a rinse-glo dispenser, a Power Shower (although I think that came later on in 1961) and the original magnetic detergent dispenser.

Not at all sorry I went

OK, so what I got is a coveted pink pull-out GE dishwasher from 1960, an SU-60T (really, a BOL) with the original wire silverware basket that I've always wanted to have. This is probably a parts machine. Very happily loaded into the truck with the turquoise cooktop and drove back to Connecticut, where:

I will either disconnect and remove the snapped Calrod heating ring, or maybe I'll bet lucky and find another. The tub is in OK condition, but there are a couple of spots that look like they've been patched with pink Bond-o. The Lexan control dial was broken some time ago and it looks like some helpful son or daughter crazy glued it back together. Was hoping for the old Lexan dial with the red "DRY" and blue "WASH" portions, but that is in my future, apparently. What I did get was the original installation instructions that were still taped (with 50+ year old masking tape) to the top of the installation cabinet.

Since there is 50+ years of dust on those instructions, I'm going to have to clean them off very carefully and then I will scan and post them here. I'm very happy about this haul, I just hope I can get this machine up and running. Interesting thing about this model that surprised me: the drain hose is connected directly to the pump. There is no spring-load valve on the back of the tub as I'm used to with these machines. There is also no Power Shower, so that spring-valve isn't there either. The motor and pump look good, so keep yer fingers crossed.
