Remember when life was simple and as a child you could cozy up to a console making enough heat from those tubes to almost heat your house...and watch all your favorite shows...

Well, here for your viewing pleasure is "The Nordholm" a danish modern lowboy! New for 1968, an RCA Victor, New Vista Color & New Vista Victrola Home Entertainment Center!

At the low low cost of $1350.00!

My mom had a very similar "hi-fi" unit...same exact legs...and THREW IT OUT...(I mean left it standing in front of the sidewalk in front of the Flatbush public library!)

How long do you think it was before someone "rescued" it?

Stereo Twin?

oxydolfan1,

Yes, you could be talking about the other twins, you could get this same cabinet design in just a console stereo, or just a console tv. This danish modern design was the rage back then!

Very nice

I love the "basket weave" over the speakers.

Let's see, if that unit was 1/4 the price of a new car back then, then if this were new it would be, what, $5000-$6000?

I really miss the days of fine furniture blended in with technology. This faded away because of people changing furniture, the advent of high quality modular stereo equipment, and large screens.

Now everything is that same, lousy grey plastic finish and if you are lucky, smoked glass doors on your TV stand.

You ask you shall receive...

frontaloadotmy,

First, Studiomatic Changer, with electronic chip in cartridge.

This changer was next to top of line, top of line featured a lighted adjusted strobe speed control.

Second, You have a Solid State New Vista AM/FM Tuner!

In 1968, you could buy Home Entertainment Centers, two ways;
Tube Tv & Solid State Stereo, or All Solid State.
All Solid States were tip top of lines called:
Trans Vista Home Entertainment Centers, these also featured the best remote controlled units available.

My Home Entertainment Center is a Tube New Vista Color (non-remote) with a Solid State New Vista Victrola Stereo System.

While many people thought the two were connected they were not, only shared speakers, which could be unplugged via RCA jacks, two separate systems by 1968, unplug one from the other and plug directly into wall outlet! These combo's had come a long way by 1968.

That RCA & Curtis Mathes consoles are in great shape. I can't believe how clean that RCA set is. I think that changer turntable is very similar in looks to Zenits turntable with the 2G tonearm.
We have a freind who has a console style Sony television from the early 80's. He said he special ordered it from Sony in 1981. I never knew that Sony made a console style television.

My grandmother used to have an RCA entertainment center that was about 8 feet long. My dad broke the neck off of the picture tube while we were moving her - oops. I was able to put a new 19" Zenith TV in the hole where the old TV went.

O M G !!!!!!!!

THAT RCA SET IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!! I have one of these in the West Virginia house (in the Spanish version)that has the StudioMatic changer in it, and I just LOVE it!!! The TV section was damaged by a storm and I had to re-do the TV section. I re-did it with an RCA remote controled model. It is one of the best sounding stereos ever!!! Hope you enjoy the set. Really just beautiful!!!! Mark Lightedcontrols

Chip- Sensor Rely

I don't exactly know, some weird thing RCA invented, if you look at the top of tone arm, small round silver disc floats along with cartridge to somehow help magnify sound rely to tuner???

I have a whole book on about it, it only lasted about 4 model years before it disappeared from production.

Beautiful

That styling is fantastic and the condition is amazing. That is one incredible find. Congratulations!
