Robert,
It looks showroom new!
I think it is so cool that you brought this machine back to life from such a deep sleep.
I am sure he / she is happy also.
Too cool.
Thanks for sharing!

Paint job on G.E.1947.

Wow that was fast. What did you do? Did you use some more of that Bewitched magic again? Be careful of that as Endora and the Witches councel doesn't like our kind to be exposed to mortals. Remember the Salem Witch trials? By the way I am a big fan of Bewitched. I would watch it faithfully every week. If you zapped a nighty from Jet Cone what would happen if you zapped some clothes from Toggles? This I would like to see, (just having a little fun? Really great restoration of the 47 G.E., Robert always good video performances and narration. Please keep up the good work. Happy laundry wash days. Danf.

Did you take the whole machine to a body shop? Do you do it yourself? Next the control backsplash, how was that done. I have the 47 Unimatic that will need some attention like that.
Hi Steve, I took the entire machine apart so all that was left was the cabinet, top and lid and I took it to a guy who does sanding, priming and electrostatic painting. For the control panel I simply took some vintage Ivory Liquid dish detergent and a mild toothbrush and scrubbed and scrubbed. As for your Unimatic that is all porcelain so all its going to need is some Bon-Ami and lots of elbow grease. The control panel on your machine is all chrome, so all you need to do is shine it up with some simichrome.

What was the most interesting part of the restoration
Would that have to be the very first wash load I got to see run it in!

Did you use a different top, Robert? The one on the right looks slightly different in depth and around the lip.
Yes I did use a top and lid from a slightly later model, but the picture is very deceiving because of the shine on the "after" top. The tops are almost exactly the same, there is a tiny difference in the lip on the new top, but when you see the two tops together in person they are so very close. I had to use the later top because the ramps that hold the round porcelain opening were completely rusted away on the original top.

Be careful of that as Endora and the Witches councel doesn't like our kind to be exposed to mortals.
Very true Dan, but the WC is getting more liberal you know, Samantha and Darrin was like Stonewall 2 :)

The Ministry Of Magic will hear about this.

Well, Robert, you most certainly waved your wand over this one. What a beautiful restoration and a fun machine to boot. 1140rpm between wash and rinse does it every time.

Gorgeous!!!! I watched your video clips on this machine. Now she looks as good as she runs!!!

amazing

I remember reading an article on a violin maker and they asked him what was the favorite part and he said "putting on the varnish, thats when it comes alive." Well this machine has certainly come alive! These are absolutely "industrial" works of art, thank goodness someone is preserving them for future generations.

Ain't she the daisy!!!

Robert:

Such a beautiful machine and lovely restoration! All she needs is a strand of pearls! ;-)

Venus :-D
