Well having read both threads now part 1&2 I didn't realise how much work had actually gone into it. I am truly grateful for all your time and efforts that weekend. Mike I would like to thank for making the arrangements to make it happen and meeting me on the motorway services both times with my boy in tow who thought it was a day out somewhere haha. Gary thank you for your expert knowledge in this particular machine without you the timer I think would never have been replaced as it's something I just couldn't have done myself or followed instructions to. Matthew for sorting the motor out, the brushes are now bedded in and silent as it ever has been. Lee not spoke to you personally over phone or email but thank you for your time and effort they are very much appreciated.
That pair of underwear left me feeling violated lol, to think my fine small a have been soaking next to that for this long lol. Most definitely not mine.
The machine is now back in it's rightful place, for another 30 years. (Will I be repeating they journey again?) I'm now using Calgon as per advice and the machine as a whole looks and performs like new with majority of major parts replaced. I can't tell you how pleased I am to have it back and not worry about leaving it running in case I came back home and it stuck on a spin cycle.

It was good to get this excellent machine up and running again, a very worthwhile exercise.
The two days went very quickly and it seemed no time before we had stripped the machine and then it was back together and we were testing it.

Was good to see you and share in this experience without your management skills this probably wouldn't have come off, plus your hands rarely left the washing up bowl, the smell of Happy Shopper Strawberry washing up liquid will stay with me for ever

Well I had a great time, when is the next one booked in for?
Richard, you have a great machine and will serve you well for many years to come, absolute privilege to work on.
All joking apart it was a fantastic treat to work with such talented engineers with a vast wealth of experience and to work on such a fantastic well built machine.
As ever I did not leave empty handed as mentioned above as I did not the time before that which will be under restoration soon too.
Just fantastic, more, more, bravo

Hoover - Who better!!
Hi Richard, looks fab back in its rightful place, much better than the back of my car - the funny thing was just as I pulled into Burtonwood Services on the M62 to park up in our usual spot to swap the washer back into Richards car there was a swarm of police cars and a convoy of lorries turned off the motorway - turned out illegal stowaways, what they thought of us lot swapping weshers I do not know!!
Matt, will have to see what happens when Chez Riply comes online!! perhaps we could do a Logic workshop

Robbie - yes but we are hoping another 34 at least, have you ever owned a Hoover!!

Fantastic overhaul there chaps and great to see all the pictures. Just like the original production line! Makes me want my Hoover Electron vented washer dryer all the more!
I should imagine that it make take Gary's eyes sometime to uncross after swapping all those wires - I know mine would be looking at each other after that mamouth task. Love the picture of the "smalls" on the line as well. Wonder how long they had been there.

It's one machine that's never really took me. We had hotpoint growing up. That was my childhood machine. Virtually all the family had the same machines cos they were pretty well built. I've used a few older hoover washers in the past. Being a care worker with the older people I've seen some really old machines and been impressed with how clean they get the clothes with the high water levels

of all the viscous comments are just about healing. I'm on a final warning from the residence association about a certain item having been pegged out on my line, in case your wondering the previous, related to an old towel that had beem given a further 4mins in the hoovermatic lol. I've been warned that if Mrs Leadbetter has to witness such an event again I will be sanctioned by having 3 foot cut off my pole!
Richard, the machine looks great back in it's home, so pleased to have been part of it's renonovation.

We've flown the flag for hoover, here's the results flying on the line.

The problem is the timer sticks, it wont advance at various places, the cause is the gear drum that drives the internal timer cam, several teeth shear off so when it gets to that place it wont advance, on later timers this drive method was abandoned for a sort of arm that pushes the timer cam round.
I made inquiries with a guy who makes parts with a 3D scanner but it would work out too expensive that way at present to have new ones made

Hi all.
great thread guys and a through rebuild job conducted on Richards A3110 - a classic Hoover machine from my childhood. I envied my Aunty Liisa (two 'i's - its the Finnish spelling!) - her with her 1100, with the three stage spin and lovely ramp up sounds and my mum with a mere 720rpm Matchbox
Richard - the machine looks lovely in its kitchen setting and its great that, with the network in operation, you were able to get it to the experts and an overhaul.
Picked up my own piece of Smoother Hoover history last weekend and it now joins the long queue of machines for repair. Not too badder shape at all and reluctantly given up by its previous owners of the last 33 years ... meet the Electra A3E10 800 Electronic and its current garage acquaintances...
