HOOVER A3786 LOGIC WASHER

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Sold a customer a new Indesit washer today, she told me that her old one was well over 20 years old & she said that it was a Hotpoint so there was me thinking oh well it will be a 95 series machine. So when we delivered her new machine i got the shock of my life when i realised it was a Hoover Logic. It's in fantastic condition not one bit of rust on it. I asked her what was wrong with it & she said that it was not filling with cold water so i thought maybe it could possibly need a new solenoid valve so when i got it home i tried it & realised fairly quickly that the inlet filter was just blocked with rust.

Great! :D

You are so lucky to have opportunity to work with people who throw out their washers for... well what for? lol

Hoover Logics

Well another great machine rescued, the Logics were and still are excellent machines, easy to work on and get parts for.

Good choice ;-)

Yes i'm very happy now that i have found a fully working Logic machine. It will be cared for & looked after very well. But for now NO MORE MACHINES, i will just have to turn a blind eye to anymore which will be difficult unless it's a real rarity. It's going to be hard getting rid of a fully working 1988 Indesit Omega but i quite simply haven't got the space to store it.

I'm beginning to think you must have some very demanding clothes: they won't be seen in the same washer twice!

No denying it's a classic machine - seemingly with an extensive refit by the looks of the Ecologic-era drum paddles and shiny tub rear. Probably just as well it's in a cupboard though - in my experience Hoovers need some serious muffling on spin...clatter...rattle...rattle...oh, pass me the earplugs! Still, hats off to their quiet filling and pumping abilities and otherwise smooth operation.

Well my washing will be washed, well i hope so for a long time in this classic machine & as for the noise levels it's not too bad even on the final 1200rpm spin. I love the sound of the timer it reminds me of the Keymatics/ Selectamatics by the clicking sounds when it's finding the programme that i've selected oh & the wash paddles in the drum are exactly the same but a different colour to the very earlier Electron series machines.

Logic

Well i have a small problem, the logic has started heating the water up to a maximum temperature of 40 on the 95,60 & 50deg programmes. I am convinced it just needs the 90/60deg stat replacing or could it be something else. Does anyone have any ideas.

Beautiful machine! Wish I could take the indesit off your hands! Another reason to move lol.

I do miss my Logic it was my first collected machine and worked trouble free for 5 years! The cottons tumbles used to wind me up abit though!

The oob on these is like the new wave's and is far from fussy it will only cut in if it is severely out of balance on distribution and will stop and try again and most likely spin anyway lol.

Thermostat

Is the easiest place to start and the most likely problem as not much else it can be..!

Then again its a while since I did work on one so maybe others have more thoughts to share ?

Austin

congratulations! I remember my nannas logics quite well and I wrecked the washer! Her dryer I loved very much. I love the old Hoovers.

Logic

Darren,

The tumbles are long at the start of the wash then short in the middle of the wash then back to long tumbles, but on the rinses they are all long tumbles very unlike the rinses on the Electrons which i believe were all short tumbles. I also think the final spin on the cottons is far better & exciting than on the Electron series, rather than starting at 500rpm it starts at 1000rpm but it could be 800rpm but it seems faster, then you have the usual Electron classic 2 second pause then it ramps up to 1200rpm. The only thing it doesn't do on the cottons spin but it does it on the synthetics is the final anti-crease tumbles at the end of the programme. The one thing i don't understand is why Hoover only knocked 15 minutes off the programme time when selecting the Speed Wash button.

Logic

Austin,

Fingers crossed that it's the thermostat at fault like you say because the timer is fine. I've ordered it today at work but it's out of stock but luckily it's still available, just waiting for our supplier to get stocks in. I will have to use the Whites heavy soil programme but at 40deg for the time being, well at least i'll be saving some money on the electric bill for the time being.

Yeah my logic was very similar to the electrons it was the 1st logic 1300. A3632 from memory.

Strangely if you selected the mixed wash button on miminum iron it tumbled better than cottons! And heated twice :-s it would refill because it would hit the delicate programme then heat again! Fun programme though.

Another quirk was when it distribution drained it could be perfectly balanced then the timer would click on and it would stop and then distribute again sometimes out of balance and it would launch around lol.

I do miss it! The speed control died and it started spinning anticlockwise full of water! Then it decided not to tumble anticlockwise at all then the motor started sounded horrific so I decided against repairing it.

Logic

We had a Hoover Electron 1100E when we were kids & i used to love messing around with the 3 spin option buttons it really did change the wash sequences. That's why i'm so happy at getting hold of this fun machine, it really brings back all the memories again!

Hoover - Who Better!!

Hi Craig, another classic saved, looks in great nic shiny inside & out, I had a similar problem with those type thermostats, try this, prise the thermostats in the rubber bungs out of the tub and and check there is no build up or residue of scale etc on them, mine had a film and where easily cleaned and worked fine after that...make sure all the terminal connections are good, clean and no crap on those and that they are pushed on tight, one red terminal looks shinier than the rest, possibly been changed...

Happy washing, going to look for the matching dryer??

Just a Thought

Hello Craig

If you have access to a multi meter you can test the thermostats to make sure they are not in the "closed" position which could possibly cause the sympton you describe.

Or a very crude way of doing it is to remove the orange and the mauve wires as these if my memory serves me are the 30/40 or 40/50 degree thermostats, that way they are out of circuit and cannot influence the 60/90 degree thermostats.

hotpoint 95622

I’m with Gary, crude but worthy of a try before ordering a very expensive thermostat, shame I don’t have a wiring diagram, different manufactory’s use different ways of holding the timer during the heating period, early 18’s Hotpoint’s, the solenoid engages to advance the timer. In the 95’s the solenoid engages to stop the timer advancing. Not sure about the Hoovers. Would be interesting to see some timer charts and wiring diagrams.

Good luck with the repair.
Lee.

OOVAH Stepar motars

Hello Lee

hows you ;-)

Normally the thermostat via the programer is connected to the stepper motor whilst heating, when the thermostat closes the power supply is fed to the stepper motor and the programer advances

Here endeth your fist lesson in Hoover stepper motor control

Logic

When i first got the machine i tried it out on the fast coloureds 60deg programme & it heated up to the correct temp then i put it on the whites 95deg programme & it was literally boiling the water without advancing & turning off the element, so i'm 80% sure it's got to be the 90-60deg stat. Yes a wiring diagram would really come in very handy Lee because the thermostats really have me baffled at the moment, but i will know more tomorrow when i test the stats.

Stats

As long as you replicate the present wiring on the stats you should have no problems, if you look very closely at the jumble of numbers on the stats sometimes they have the temperatures on them, i cannot see them in the picture though
