Hey all you wonderful guys, I’m a loooong time lurker and lover of this site, here’s my first time dipping my toe into posting! So.......especially to all you UK collectors, my main interest is vintage dishwashers, and of course in the UK they are pretty rare! For Christmas when I was 15 (I’m 45 now!) my older brother bought me a mid 70s Miele, our family’s first dishwasher. It was awesome! So........ I’d dearly love to own a Hoover AutoJet or SupaJet, I scour Evay but so far without success. Any advice from all you experienced guys would be much appreciated.
Thanks already, Paul

Hi Paul

My parents bought a second hand Hoover Superjet machine in 1977 (I'd be 12 at the time), it was their first flurry into the dishwashing machine era. It didn't have a water softener and was prone to scale coming loose and blocking the spray arms. As it got older when it was on its wash and really hot, it would drip water from the door on the RHS. It was replaced with a new Philips 2000S machine in the early 80s which looked super cool in my eyes and much more advanced.

Here's the Philips 2000 brochure and a letter my mother received in 1985 from Philips!

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers, Alan

Thanks Paul, if it has the Slimstar in it this was one of my favourite machines. Here's the two middle pages of the brochure Al posted to complete the Superjet thread for you.

Hi Al, I loved that Philips dishwasher, but it very regularly broke as the wires from the timer down to the bottom were literally put at 90 degrees every time you opened the door and they constantly broke in the process shorting and sparking (hence the eventual letter to all owners about the problem).

Cheers, Alan

Hi Paul.

Welcome to the club!

Autojets and Superjets - its quite ironic that the preserved examples are from the older ranges. I say ranges, cause the first two ranges were visually identical, apart from the titles slapped on the front.

Thankfully examples of both the earliest types are safe, in the hands of Mike and Al though, if my memory serves me correctly, its only a couple of years ago that the SuperJet surfaced.

I remember many years ago, walking with my dad around the village where I lived. On the road leading back into the village, sat outside a house, was a 4805 Auto-Jet, sadly awaiting collection by the council.
I had never seen one before - never knew they existed, but immediately struck me as a smart machine. I didnt open the door, so I never saw the rotating rack arrangement these machines have.

So pleased that years later, examples have been preserved.

The adverts below show the 4805 Auto-Jet and 4809 Super-Jet.
The previous models - 4804 and 4808 respectively - were identical, but can easily be differentiated from the machines in the adverts, as they said 'HOOVER' on the fascias, rather than the names ....

I wonder if any of the follow on range survives - the 4824 and 4834? Hopefully somewhere and one day an example of each will be saved.

Regards
Paul

Hi Alan.

Many thanks for posting the Philips brochure - a very smart looking series of machines.

Only discovered a year or two ago, via one single photograph, that the range was warmed over and got the black fascia treatment.
I think the photo machine is a 2000SX ...

... and they had the blue treatment originally.

Do you know if the all button model was introduced with this blue range, or was it a later addition?

Paul
