Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

What a brilliant brochure Ian - thanks for posting

How times have changed! You realise how sexist these things seem now with the men designing and generally making the stuff and the women and housewives doing the testing - can you imagine writing any of this stuff now? And district washing advisers - now that's a job - we could do with those now - my mother in law washes everything at 30 deg C using liquid detergents and wonders why the machine has a funny whiff! A district washing adviser could have licked her into shape!

I have to say that the TV advert for the keymatic with its 39 improvements has to be one of my all time favourites as it is just so wacky. They were so good at advertising its a shame that Hoover now is a shadow of its former self.

Awww

It is sooo sad.............when I look at all the enthusiasm streaming out of this magazine...........for this wonderful product.............

But again thanks for posting it here, it is a joy aswell :-)

Excellent. Thanks for sharing. It's amazing to read just how much went into the washing machine. 7000 wash loads each machine in trial would do without any problems. Now that's proper testing.
Great pics seeing the machine built and built properly
I would read this back to back over and over lol

Thank you Ian

I have one of these Keymatic (just waiting for a moment for me to restore it) and read with such interest this brochure that you have, lots of lovely manufacturing photos and info, such a delight and it made me late this morning for work when I initially saw it! Oh to be able to go back in time to this revolution and enjoy this new fangled thing first hand... Thanks for taking the time to up load, as others have said it's much appreciated. Cheers, Alan

I'm glad you're all enjoying this as much as I am. Must admit though that I'd not noticed the Hooverette assembled the wrong way round.
Just as an aside, does anyone know what number the Keymatic serial numbers started at? I'm assuming that it must have been 1 but I don't know. The reason I'm asking is mine is 23812 but all the internals are painted white, not grey and each part is numbered like a self assembly kit. Eg, Timer 126, brake gear 216 r/h rear frame section 96 at the top and 133 at the bottom.

Serial number

According to my records there were 38,000 Keymatics produced between January and July 1961 - the opening number is HR12150 so I imagine that makes yours March 1961.

Just out of interest there were 45,000 produced between July and December 1961 and 41,000 between January and July 1962
