Hi im new here and. Hoping to make friends with you all?
I've been interested in washers for a while (1960s to 1994 at most) but I'm only just starting to collect them, one of my favourites are the hoover electrons and soon I will be getting a hoover electron A3190 it looks in good condition and has instruction manual.
Can anyone give me some information on it and all of the electrons in general please?

Thanks

Welcome to the site!

Hi there,

welcome to the site, I hope you have a wonderful time here and always feel free to ask whatever you want.

Now, I don't know much on Electrons, a user named 'matchboxpaul' will be able to provide a lot of useful information on them, but for basics, most Electrons were released from I think 1979 to about mid 80s??

The most common models are the 'Electron 1100 De Luxe', Electron 800 and their exclusive derivatives (Electron 800/1100 Dual Spin).

Here is a picture of a Hoover A3350 'Electron 1100 De Luxe' Electricity Board Shop model (1985/86).(Apologies to the user for using your picture).

Have fun,

Brandon :)

Logics

Don't forget the Logics! I own two - an early timeline one with the Electron bodyshell that I rebuilt totally and is a spare machine for the family. The other is one that is in occassional use, a very late 1100, in very good order with the Logic body (similar to electron from what I can see), which shall be up for sale soon if you are interested...

logics and electrons

Brandon, I know that the keymatics started the ball rolling for the electrons in the 60s and they ended with the logics, I know how to use them etc but don't know stuff like what shops sold them and how to repair them etc in the future I really want to have the whole collection starting from the slanted keymatic right up to the last logic. What do you think of the model I will be owning soon? (Its taking forever to get it to me there is about a weeks waiting time in replies from the seller and they still need to get its dimensions)

Triumph Toledo I really like the logics too, I don't know where this memory came from but I think that my nan had a logic, I remember turning the little dials and being told of for playing with the door. I think it died when I was about 3 and she still hasn't replaced it today!
Does the washer that you will be selling have all of its stickers and leaflets?

Thanks Luke

Hi Luke and welcome to the forum all the way from Ireland!

The thread in the link below holds all the information you need regarding Electrons and other Hoover machines.

James.

Hi and welcome.
Sounds like you have same in trestle in machines as me. I have particular interest in Hoover machines up to the Newwave/Softwave generation. I myself own quite a number of them from the early slant front Key match through the Electors and Logics. When I can get into the shed I will post some pictures. I also have a Bendix 7147, an Indesit and a few other treasures.
This site is a mine of use full information and interesting posts. Members are also the most friendly bunch of people you will ever come across.

.

Hi hoovermad I love Bendix too! (Amongst most brands)
Where did you get your keymatic from as I've been searching for about a year now...
I'd love videos of your machines too?

hoovermad

Other than the machine that you previously said that you have what others do you own? And do you have all of the documents etc and did you have to do much work on them?

I got my Keymatic off eBay. They do appear occasionally. It's a 3224. I have around 15 machines in total, mainly Hoovers. Most of them work, some need attention of some sort. It's an ongoing project. The Keymatic, a Hoover 1300 Computer wash and a Timeline 1300 are non runners at moment. When I can get into the shed (I'm storing a friends belongings in it at the moment ) I will take some pictures. I also have an 1100 Electron, an 1100 Electronic, 1100 Computer control Electron and a Timeline dryer amongst others. I'm afraid model numbers elude me at moment without being able to look.

Hoover A3190

Hello and welcome

I have a the first Electron which was the A3190, Mathew from Cardiff has an A3060 which was the first Hoover 1100 spin machine.

I have used mine as a daily driver for a bit over 2.5 years now and love it, they require basic maintenance from time to time, most parts for the motor, suspension and tub you can still get.

They are easy to work on if you have some experience, there are people on here who can help you out with advice etc.

this is a picture of my Electron 1100 and the matching tumble dryer in my living room before I installed them

hoover a3190

Hi Gary you have the same as me!
How many years were the a3190s sold for? If I tell you the serial number? Can you date it for me?
Thanks

Hey!

Hey Luke! Welcome to the site, nice to see another young person (My age!) here!

I've got 11 washers, 5 dryers and a collection of vacuum cleaners. Mainly to the title of the thread, one of those washers is a Hoover Logic A3790 (1300 spin).

As for dating Hoover machines, I think that the first digit after the model number is the year (You need to know the decade), and the 2 after that are the month, I think thats how it works but I'm not an expert on Hoover machines!

I'll grab some pics of my Logic later on :)

Chris

Here's mine

Here's one of my Logics, a 'Premier', which may have to be sold when the Hotpoint top-loader arrives. It's a late one, with the double-glazed door. Washes very well indeed and is in very good order - even the plastics have not gone that horrible yellow/sicky colour and the lettering has not faded. Who knows, I may even keep it, it is in such good order and works that well.

logic

Too bad about the condition of it. I do know how to get the tiny parts of rust of without damaging the rest of the pain if you wanted to know?

Rust

Yup, its a shame, the previous person who owned it thought they could do some touching up here and there with some cream paint....sadly it didn't turn out as they wanted it to! I'm going to try and strip it down and either respray the cabinet myself once sanded down etc or just strip it down and send the cabinet off to a proffessional resprayer, depending on costs etc.

logic

Did they paint it up to sell?
I really don't understand why people mess with something (unless its cleaning the item) I'm a bit weird in the way I really like everything to be original on my collection.
I can't remember if the logic has a high wash level? If the towels that you are washing are really dirty I'd recommend that you wash them with miosan (I think that's the name, I know its mio-something) its antibacterial and helps whiten towels

Welcome Luke

Here is my Hoover 1100 A3060

It's been my regular machine for about 16 years now, and somebody else used it for 20 years before me. Yes it's had a few repairs, that any machine of this age may need, door boot, motor brushes etc and a few other fine tunings me and Gary have devised over the years. Though I did change the bearings a couple of years ago as I had the tub apart for another issue, they didn't really need changing, not many machines today would have the bearings last for 14 plus years.

As with Gary and his A3190, I really enjoy this machine, great wash and rinse results and the 1100 spin is more than enough for me as most things are dried on the line and even if i use the dryer, matching D6042 the full load is dry in an hour, it just gets on with the job, 60 degree `D' completed in an hour.

So yes, hope you enjoy your new hoover automatic for many years to come.

Mathew

a3060

Thanks Mathew.
These really are good washing machines hope it keeps going.
How long was my version sold for?
Also do you know where to get spare parts (I mean ones that are from the same time period as the machine they are for?)

Hi Luke

A lovely machine to have. I have 2 Hoover front loaders - an A3060 which needs a new bearing and seal and an A3668 which needs an anti-twist kit fitting.

Years ago I did have an A3260 which I gave to a friend of mine. The door release broke so someone tied some string on it so you could open the door. The picture showing it before the kitchen was redone was when you had to put the drain pipe in the sink. They had an American lodger for a while who wasn't used to such primitive ways and she forgot to do that and flooded the whole kitchen! The machine died not long after that and was replaced by an LG intellowash.

Look forward to hearing more about your machine when you get it

Paint

Well I can only presume so, I doubt that with the amount of paint they used on it to presumably cover up the rust, that they would have thought it wasnt worth selling in a poor cosmetic condition. Either way, it works and holds a lot of sentimental memories, and thats really all that matters :)

Pic attached of it on its final spin, 1300R/pM

Oh Luke

I've every confidence my 1100 isn't going anywhere soon, lol, and should this confidence temp fate, well I've a few spares and a donor machine as back up. Though I enjoy all the vintage machines especially the british made brands, and others do disagree and have their favourites, for me the electronic 1100, models 3060,3110,3190 etc are the best all round performers, excellent results, sensible programme times, fast spin speed and easy and rewarding to work on.

You asked about spares, well most people these days will look online, many spares are still available, though original genuine parts aren't so common, i'd rather use a pattern spare and have a working machine than not. Also as many repair businesses stop trading they sell off the spares stock on ebay, and if you do have any repair shops locally or see any on your travels it's worth asking for any spares for your particular machine. And yes most spare I would say have been produced around the time of manufacture and during the 5-10 years after, so most of what you get now will have been on a shelf for some time. Parts like bearings and seals etc are standard size bearings produced by bearing manufacturer rather than washing machine manufacturers, so these would be easy to get along with some types of shaft seal, such as bearingsboys online etc (they sell bearings and belts lol)

But I would advise if you hope to keep any vintage machine for any length of time you need to get spares along the way, when you get the chance.

Chris

great to see you enjoying the logic, pleased to hear it's not leaving the collection anytime soon, is the bodyshell transplant still a possibiltiy.

Mathew

parts

Thanks Mathew for the advice about parts.
There are a lot of carboots and places around my area to find parts for anything so I will make sure to look out for them.
