My German friend Stephan is repairing the Keymatic I once owned. He has a question about it. Because his English is not to good he asked me to start this thread.

His question is if the seal in the picture is the only one. Or is there a second seal behind the part where the impeller goes on.

Does anyone have a blown up picture of this part of the machine?

Hi Louis
That white plastic ring is a spacer, not a seal.
In your second photo there is a stainless steel cap at the tip of the aluminium hub. (Centre of photo.)
You can lift off that stainless steel cap (it looks like a stainless steel washer with a leg off to one side) to get to the seal behind it.
I can't remember the type of seal - a standard lipped shaft seal or just an O-ring? I think it might be a proper shaft seal?
There are bronze bush bearings down in there too, don't forget to add some suitable grease, choose a grease that is safe for rubber seals.

Here is the best thread ever on Keymatic repair information:
https://automaticwasher.org/threads/hoover-keymatic.99436/

It includes this manual at reply #23:
https://gb-data.nyc3.digitaloceansp...8e56d9ada5729ba79aada2f6bbe60ff62211a34d1177a

In that UK manual, see pages 83 and 84 of the printed Hoover manual, which are PDF document pages 44 and 45.
Page 83 shows a diagram with pulsator seal part 250. (The Australian manual calls this part 629224.)
Page 84 has a note, number 45, which says which way around the seal must be installed - spring towards the bearing, which to my understanding means the spring end goes in first.

I hope this is helpful for you both.
Chris.

Stephan says thank you Chris! He already had a suspicion there would be a seal behind the plate. He will continue working on the Keymatic. If everything comes together he will post a video.

He’s also working on a second one, that machine’s bearings are totally gone.

BTW, here’s Stephan’s Youtube Channel:
