Hello@all!
I´m searching for a new door seal for a good working Keymatic from the early 60ies.Not possible to get it in germany, cause the machines have not been popular here, and only a few are found on eBay,mostly in worse condition!Hopefully,I´ll get some information about where to get one here!

Door Seals

Morning Thomas

Dont hold your breath on that one, the door boots for the sloping front (am assuming its the sloping front) keymatic are virtually non existant!!! we are slowly working our way through new spares, mainly old Euro models to see if one will be suitable. What model is yours?? any pics??

Failing that we just may have to find a place to have some manufacturerd, as between us all there appears to be a growing number of keymatics surfacing which would help with the costs!!

DoorSeals

Here is a picture of mine!

I was thinking of turning round the seal for 180 degrees, but there are holes in the rubber all round!Don´t think,it will stop leaking with the old one!

Keymatic 3224

Nice one Thomas, its the first Hoover model 3224 with timeline, and a lovely original turquoise door boot!!!

The only thing you could experiment with is to paint onto the rubber a clear sealant etc and build it up in layers, I`ll tell you now that type of rubber just turns to mush when you start to remove it!! so take plenty of pictures before you attempt to move it!!!

Does it work and complete a wash etc??

Keymatic 3224

It works perfect,instead of leaking!
The inside looks like new!

That´s why I want the new seal!

The best option would be to get a batch specially produced before the last existing one turns to mush. If enough were produced the cost per unit wouldn't be too great.

My Boot is still intact, the issue with mine was the sump hose that had disintegrated. It took some work, but I managed to create a new one, with some PVC a Cortina upper radiator hose and the Tub to pump hose off a Hoover toploader.

I've never put the cabinet back on mine yet as I'm missing a hot wash keyplate and from time to time keep fiddling to figure out how to control the programmer with a toggleswitch to get the heat periods.

My pulsator seems to have been disabled in the past. Mine is the next model along with the round timer.

Great looking machine.
I was looking at your boot and wondering if a Whirlpool Duet boot would fit? The Duet Boot is HUGE when you have it out of the machine.
A second thought is the Westinghouse boots for the Spacemates.

Hi Brent!

Would it then be possible to get a Whirlpool or Westinghouse boot??

Thanx for the answer,

Thomas.

Hi Thomas,
Since you are in Germany...try to find a company that sells BAUKNECHT parts. I think the equal to our US Duets is the Bauknecht Big. If you can find a parts store that sells the boots, ask them if they can provide you with dimensions of the boot. Compare that with the boot of your Keymatic. Often with vintage machines you "make things work".
Someone else on your side of the world might chime in with a better idea than mine.
Your Kaymatic is in wonderful shape!
Brent

I meant to say "Keymatic" not "Kaymatic".

Although I think the "Hoover Kaymatic" would be kind of festive!

Door Boots

The issue with the Keymatic is as Louis says, its small at the point of opening on the cabinet, under 30cm, but the drum opening has a much bigger opening!!!

THEN, look at Thomas`s pic when empty, it looks level, BUT as the drum fill and drops back, the boot opens up CONSIDERABLY, and thats the problem, small front, large behind and needs a lot of slack in the middle!!!

Brent, good thinking about the Dreamspace/Duet, tried that one, much too big on the front cabinet opening and not enough slack!!

Hey Jon, you didnt say you`d gone direct!! Paul, Tania & team know us very well, I`ve a stash of defunct boots from machines of bygone times where we are trying to find one to fit...LOL..what happened to the 2 packages of boots that I sent?? where they for different Bendixii??

Sadly not, I think

I suspect that the machine being referred to in the old thread is the one pictured above, and which appeared in our recent threads of our last get together in Chester.

One one thought which strikes me is what about the door boot used on the old slant front Westinghouse models. From what I have learned (on here) the two machines operate on a similar principle of the drum changing angle as it fills with water, so if the dimesnions were right ..... I realise that these must be pretty rare too and even older than the Keymatic but perhaps rather more plentiful?

Thanx alot for all the good news!

I sent an eMail to Paul Curran, maybe there will be one still existing!
Please hold Your thumbs for me,would be the luckiest man in the world having a complete wash with no leaking in my keymatic!
Then,I would have both of my dream machines work perfect:The Hoovermatic that is still running well and-hopefully-the Keymatic!

Thanx to All of You,

Thomas.
