Has anyone torn into one? My beautiful avocado set that I has shipped from Ohio, has started leaking at the pump.It only leaks when draining. All the hose connections are fine. It leaks at the top control rod area connection and from the pulley shaft area. Doesn't seem to be leaking at the 2 halves of the pump. Any help would be appreciated. What type of seal is at the top and bottom? Thanks guys. If I remove and open what am I in for?? Are there seals between the 2 halves?

Mine was doing the same thing, then after sitting for a while, it stopped pumping.  During a very boring day during COVID lockdown,  I decided to take it apart.  Now I wish I had left it alone.  Maybe between the two of us, we can fix both our machines.

Pumps were weak and problematic part for these old Hoover TTs. Think things improved by later models, but not by much. *LOL*

Good news is pumps were designed to be taken apart, bits replaced or repaired, then put back together again. Bad news is Hoover TTs went out of production ages ago now, thus NOS spares can be difficult to find.

Of course back in day one simply could swap out a problematic pump for new, but those days are long gone as well. NOS Hoover TT pumps are rare as Dodo birds nowadays.

Don’t be put off

If the pumps are the same as a twin valve we have in the UK they look complicated but they are not . The pump splits into three and there are seals in between the parts . If the spindle seal has failed they are simple to replace. Go to a bearing supplier who will be able to measure and get a seal to fit . Usually the top valve seal will clean up and be okay but it’s a simple piece of rubber . Give it a go they are fab little machines . Best wishes from the UK …

Thanks all!

Thanks all for the great info! macboys pics and descriptions are a HUGE help. I will carefully take the pump apart and see if I can find replacement grommets and a bottom seal. I will try the hot water bath again before. It needs to be done as it isn't working now! And leaks only get worse! Thanks again!
