Hoover--What were they thinking?

I'm still on the scout for a Hoover blender. they pop up on ebay every so often but one will show up locally. Last week at Value Village there was a Hoover ladies hair dryer in that dirty pink color like the vac above, nice little plastic lunch box like case with the hose and bonnet inside.. I shoulda grabbed it but sometimes you have to say no.
BTW if you find a Hoover blender it's not complete unless it has the built in spatula which they all did.
 
That reminds me Pete, there are two versions of the blender as well. The one you're referring to is the later of the two. The older style has a glass jar, with a tall, square chromed base, vertical row of buttons and I think a timer, carry handles on each side. That was manufactured by "Knapp Monarch".

Yes--have the show excellent-may even make a good film to show in the various vac company training rooms-would watch it before George and I would go out on a TriStar Van campaign-We would be motivated by it.-We would say-May the FQ,Rainbow,Kirby guys Eat Beans and we have the Steak!
also have the Purple-Almost a Royal Purple color-Air-Way "Signature" machine-if only other vacs can be as beautiful as this-Say--why didn't they make the top cover of the PN the same purple color as the body?The machine is an excellent performer.Too bad air-Way isn't more promoted.they build a fine machine--better than the overpriced plastic Mieles.I bet that Air-Way signature will be still running and even cleaning your floors long after the Miele has been thrown into the dump.The Air-Way PN is LIGHT Years better than the Miele PN sold with their TOL "Red Velvet" series machine-was disappointed.I have an older Miele #206 PN that came with a "White Pearl" model Meile that is much better.The crome polished steel floor shoe pushes easier and the steel replaceable strip brushroll is better.
 
Clever-Thanks-that sounds very useful and much safer than using a regular spatula in the machine-some folks were tempted to use a regular one in the machine--and "Spatula Puree"added to their "mix"The idea should be revived.
 
Look closely at the blender cords

Its the same cord used inside the Dial-a-Matic, that ran up under the exhaust cover, and connected to the plug in the lower handle...
The hand mixers were made by Sunbeam, percolators by Hamilton Beach.
Irons and Fry pans were made in North Canton.
 
Wow Fred, your collection is INCREDIBLE to say the least...looks like a store display! BEAUTIFUL machines; how long have you been at it?

And do I see a Hoover Constellation Model 87, with the air-switch? Too cool...

And it works!!! I was up there last Sunday and didn't realize that Fred had a working green 87 Constellation. You can never find one of those with the switch that works at the wand end of the hose. I almost fainted when I realized he had one. Of course, had to take it down and play with it. Even more incredible is the pink 85 or 86 (I can't remember) constellation with the metal machine end. This machine was actually the last one with the wheels on the rug tool. Never saw one of those till last Sunday. Fred also has another 87 with a switch on the machine. They put the switch on the machine when they took them in for repair since those hose switches almost always failed.
 
My $0.02 on Hoover colors

Veg, why I oughta...*SLAPPP*! I personally think the Seal Griege color is quite pleasant...my 1020 has it, and the Orange and Lime Green colors are far from hideous or throat-gripping...;-)

I agree Pete, the worst has to be the dark yellow/chocolate brown scheme. I cringe just looking at a vacuum with that color. About the only Hoover it looks good on is the Celebrity, IMHO. All of the other colors are neat and I would take any of them...what a variety to choose from!!

One of the best has to be this "Apple Green" color on my Super Quik-Broom. It just screams 70's!

Austin, your color is called...

Leichen green, and it was also used on the 1975 U4057 Convertible.
The trim is oyster white..
 
Fred fainting

The truth be known, Fred did faint at the sight of the working Hoover 87. After he collasped, everyone stared at each other. Since I had a degree in Nursing, (class of Clara Barton 1805), they felt I should do something.

Choking back my nausea, I proceded to give Fred mouth to mouth resuscitation. In grogging gratitude he singed over the title to his house to me. After several minutes of clarity, he retracted his offer as he was too delirious to know what he was doing.

So, Fred is still with us in his villa and I'm back in my trailer in Charlotte.

Better luck in two weeks when we meet again.
 
I wish I had a digicam....

I've seen "my" convertible up in one of those pictures, #1170, a nice medium blue and white. I still think it's one of the nicer looking uprights ever made.

Bought new in 1967, continues to run very well. I tried to convince my Ma to get the attachments, but she declined. Oh well.

Your Convertible is probably a 1070, from 1969 to 1971. I have two here, one for the collection, and the other a souped up hot rod that I use to clean with.
Some collectors would make fun of the Convertible, Hoover's first "disposable" vacuum. The reality is the Convertible in its day was the industry standard for an upright vacuum, and remains today the best selling, most popular product in the history of electric floorcare.

Some might consider it "disposable," but not after the new cord, new handle release....It's not a silent machine, but it's considerably quieter than most out there today.

Airway Charlie's collection - bottom LHS - is that a Dial-a-matic?
We had a machine that looked the same as that here, but it was called the Dynamatic. Only sold in one colour scheme, greyish brown with orange front and back covers.

My mother had a blue Convertible, last model with the on/off pedal out to the side, later ones had a button on the body of the machine. Replaced it with a Starlight, very powerful machine but amazingly noisy. At the time we had white shag pile carpet, just what a family needs with three kids and a black dog. The Starlight really groomed that carpet, stood the pile up and made it look clean(er).

I have a couple of Larks but they don't get much use, they ar fun to play with but with only 250 watts, they don't vac too well.

My parents also had a Hoover fridge, would have been early sixties, single door about 250 litres at a wild guess.

The Dial-A-Matic ran here from 1963-1979. The one pictured in Charlie's photo is model 1140 which ran from 1969-1971.
I have a Dynamatic in my collection(model 1125A) recovered from the trash in the Sydney suburb of Eastwood and sent to me by my friend John. I also have a Turbo Lark and three Aussie Convertibles.
