Hi all,

You may recall that in January I bought a Hotpoint 1005 Spin Dryer, well, I went to put it on today, and it just made a buzzing sound, didn't spin. After a few attempts I got it to spin but very slowly. Now it's back to just buzzing again and not spinning at all.

Does anyone know what might be wrong with it and how I would go about fixing it?

Thanks

Matt

Oh Noooooo....

Sorry Matt.

Am gutted for you - fingers crossed it will be a simple repair.

I dont have servicing info for Hotpoint spinners.

Hopefully someone else will be able to help.

Hello Matt

Just a shot in the dark, but it sounds like the motor start capacitor has gone to me, if you can take it out the value will printed on it, something like 8uf etc

Hotpoint Motor

Hi Matt, does sound like the capacitor, although could be the lid contact switch and/or broken wiring etc...does the motor look like this underneath?? this is the square Morphy Richards version which was similar to it...the capacitor is the large tube at 6.30 with the screw nut...

If it is the capacitor its an easy fix, BUT if you dont do repairs make sure you get someone who knows!!!these units can hold a large current until discharged!!! and always use an RCD circuit breaker plug when using an old appliance unless it has recently been PAT tested & certified.

Square Morphy Richards spinner?

Please, Sir, can we have a top shot?

Cheeky request but we had a square Morphy Richards - wondering if it's the same: dark blue rubberised top and a pink lid release button but I know there were other varieties. How fast did they spin? I'm thinking maybe only 1400rpm or so.

Thanks in anticipation.

Alex

Thanks for the help everyone

I'm afraid I won't get a chance to have a look at it for a while, it definately does sound like the capacitor though.

Will keep you posted when I get to have a look at it.

Matt
