Looks so stylish with the chrome door, this is my favourite of the 18- series Hotpoints, I prefer it to the purple liberators!

Great that another 18-series hotpoint is saved.
If i remember rightly, was this the ebay purcase that came with the zanussi studio?
So glad that machine went to a collector and a secure retirement. Appears to be water tight too!

me and rob were on annual leave last week and we encountered two of these great machines.
The first is a weird one - an 18680, but in silver and very battered silver at that too!
my understanding is that the 18680 should be a brown facia machine. In fact the owner of said 18680 also owns two replacement facia stickers for the 18680 and they are indeed brown.
All i can assume is that this is an early cross over 18580 to 18680 machine - it is date code 57 , dating to September 1982.
We have plans for it and in time it will be restored.
May i present an 18680...

The second machine is a new acquisition of Mike King's.
It is a rare exclusive model - the 1842 - and was made for sale in Curry's.
It has suffered with some facia damage, where by the facia was pushed through the hole where the variable dial should be.
I repaired it the best i could, involving removing the facia plate, pushing the facia sticker bits back through and placing some white paper behind the bits and gluing them down.
Then glued a two pence piece in the hole for added strength, before heavily taping the whole lot down.
Then tried to colour the right parts in with a pen - although made a bit of a boob. I will visit armed with tip-ex mike to make amends.
From a distance, apart from the rogue black line, the handiwork is a vast improvement on a ragged black hole.
From mine and Rob's stash of Hotpoint bits we have a replacement coppertone door, as the existing door appears to be permanently scarred by something that dripped down it.
Also, its water tight too!

Returning to your 18580 Bjorn...
pleased that you finally managed to get the machine down to you, after the trauma with couriers.
May it provide you with hours of fun, vintage hotpoint style.

Throwing our other 18 series in for good measure.
The 18680 will scrub up nicely and shine like new again.
Had worse restorations than that aint we P lol,
Just need to get our hands on the Purple Variable Liberator 1848 we know when the current owner has finished with it and we should have a fabulous set of them.

Hi all
Great to see another one of these in use. I think I prefer the door on yours compared to mine. I've always been a fan of chrome doors.
During the big freeze my Hottie was wheeled inside and used as our main machine. I must say I love it! (BTW the other machines were drained to prevent freeze damage).
I prefer to let it heat from cold it then does a nice long wash. I also might be able to date it more closely. On the synthetics wash it did not do the cool down phase which puts this machine at an earlier date. However, I will need to check the brochure.
So Bjorn any idea of dating your machine? Unfortunately mine had the back replaced so the label is wrong. Mine has three stablizing legs.
I love the simple rinsing, although prefer to keep the interim spins down. I find the fast burst, although fun, causes more suds. I can see why they went for the 2 short spins later.
BTW good luck to whomever gets the wonderful Hottie Top loader in Leamington. A great machine but too far for me.

You are indeed corect, it was the Hottie from ebay with the studio (although i never actually got it!). It's taken all this time to get it here, but pleased it is now home lol!
Machine seems to be fairly sound and makes loveley noises when running, although it does have a fairly ominous knocking noise when spinning. It does sound as if the drum spider is cracked, but will need to investigate further when time allows.

That Serial number equates the date to March 1982 - only a few months before ours!
