Can anyone say when or what year this washer was made- not sure if it's 1993? Please and thanks.

I have attached the date code guide - yours is 47 according this. It looks like it is either Nov 1989 or 1997. I'm not sure what year these were discontinued but the 9605 was introduced in 1989 but it wouldn't have the 1993 reference on the other ratings plate so it must be 1997 - so confusing! What colour are the graphics as the green ones were the last?

Steve,thanks for your reply. I don't think the machine would be as old as from 1989 but I'd say 1997. The writing on the control panel is a kind of cyan blue or turquoise colour.

Chris- thank you for the pic, I can read it.

I will be down home in the country from Dublin at the weekend so I will take some pictures. I bought it a while back but really only have weekends to mess about with it as I am in Dublin weekdays.I am sure I will pick your brains about it again. It's a lovely machine - it just needs some tlc. Thanks for your help.

Production

I imagine that at the time, the production of these models would have been at the ex Hotpoint factory, in Kimnel Park, near Llandudno, North Wales.

Hi everyone,

I took some pics at the weekend. I managed to get casing off and control panel. I have them stored away.The bolts were quite tight so I have left some WD40 on them. I will see if they will come off this weekend. Can anyone advise if I should replace the white caps? Two are split and the nuts underneath are rusty - should I replace the whole lot?

There are also some rust spots on the drum- is there any special paint I could use to cover them? Thanks for any help.

I jumped to post my image as I read your posts ''9506'' NOT a 9605 top loader, so ignore my post about the Hotpoint 9506 front loader as youve got a 9605 top loader! Apologies for confusion..!

With regard to the tub rust, Hammerite might be worth a try

Hi Malachy

Well done on getting the drive nut off - did it come off easily. It think many of these ended up snapping! I would suggest you try and find a new bowl clamp ring set if you can. It contains the ring, bolts, covers and cork gasket as yours looks quite corroded. Once those bolts start rusting they can leave marks on clothes etc.

Also, you have a choice here depending on how far you are stripping the machine. You can undo the bowl support clamp and hopefully lift out the bowl complete with the support or you can undo the nuts and lift the bowl off separately. It's a bit easier to get the bowl support off with the bowl attached or at least try to loosen it first from the shaft. I've attached some pics of when I did the seals on my 9605 and I took the bowl off first. The bowl support took quite a bit of effort to pull it off.

Well done with the 9605 - a great machine, and a really popular machine over here in its day. I'm hoping to dig mine out of storage soon - not sure whether it is a realistic prospect for use, but time will tell!
