It seems strange that the dryer in the picture is a standard drum GE dryer. It looks to be TOL or near it so wouldn't Hotpoint use the giant drum/door (actual real Hotpoint) design ?
No, because, at this point, the geniuses over at GE had just killed off the real Hotpoint division in Chicago. Both these machines are GE's with a few leftover Hotpoint parts thrown in to defraud Hotpoint customers. That said, even these models were much more interesting than the shameless GE clones that were to come in just a couple of years.
I understand that Hotpoint was completely under GE's ownership at this point. But I think the giant drum dryer was still built at this time. I know it was around until at least 1980 or so. In fact if you look at the bottom of the page the dryer in the complete lineup is a giant drum model. I just thought that GE/Hotpoint would use that for a TOL model.
Does anyone have the later history of Hotpoint, say from the 60's to the 80's? I would love to know what model Hotpoint washer my grandmother had. It was from around '69 or 70 and had a buzzer that sounded when the lid was lifted, and a grey bleach dispenser with a screen on the back right corner that had some sort of flip top. If I remember correctly it also said overfill rinse on the timer.

And I would love to find my grandmother's Hotpoint washer, too. I do not remember too much about it. I know it had a similar control panel as the POD, shape-wise. And a green agitator. That thing was loud as hell. I was about 6 when it pooped out and apparently choked on a pillowcase. I am sure it was late 60's, similar to the Sillohuette (sp?) series. I cannot be so sure though. I loved it, from what i remember of it. It would be a dream to see or hear it again.
