A friend of mine just closed on a house last Friday and after hearing the descriptions  of the "stepping back into 1968" house, I had to see it.  The bathrooms appear to be pretty much intact as built in '68 but the kitchen and laundry had been updated back in the 80's and 90's so weren't super-vintage but still very interesting.

First we'll begin in the kitchen.  Ignoring the almond GE-built Kenmore branded side-by-side, we have this kinda cool range.  Built by Raytheon in '94 for the Amana brand line.  Two halogen elements (front), self cleaning and other than a bit of black touch-up paint, it's in really nice condition.

Looked pretty nice on the outside, but as the money-shot reveals, there's something wrong here!  WTF??

The top rack is OK but for some of the standard side-rail-rot syndrome that so many of this era suffer from.   I imagine the lower rack was pretty bad and they found or bought this as a replacement for the "oh, that'll do to sell the house".  I don't think I have a good upper rack for this machine but it will likely be replaced anyway.

Money shot!

There would have likely been a fabric softener dispenser that fit on the top of the agitator but that is missing.  Good thing I have one since this machine will be making the trip home soon.  My friend already has a washer & dryer set (DD Whirlpool Catalyst & Senseon pair) so doesn't need these.  I have no use for the dryer but that washer is one my aunt bought new so it will be fun to play with.  You can sort of make out the shine in the porcelain basket (Amana didn't get the stainless baskets right away, that was a SQ exclusive) and there is no evidence of rust anywhere, all functions worked as they should - just needs a good cleaning!

ooo.. Now there is an interesting stove. And those vents are very cool "retro-high tech" looking.

I assume no "smaller appliances" of the cleaning-by-means-of-electricity type? :P

Sweet sweet Amana appliances! The range is surprising clean, and the washer is surpurb. Recently I saw a 1980/1981 perf tub vintage Speed Queen behind a dealer in Harvest. So mint the marketing promo sticker was still on the lid. Unfortunately it was so buried behind DD Whirlpools that the neighbors would have called the cops due to the noise of trying to release it from the junk!

Can't wait to see some action shots from this girl. Thankfully this one is as nice as that SQ.

Very fun pictures Greg, thanks for sharing them.  That stove is very interesting!  The Amana washer will be fun as well!

Greg that Amanna Range is very good looking and streamlined even looks good for todays kitchens.

That washer would be very cool edition to the rest of your Speed Queen Systems.

Nice washer.

Thanks for posting.

Hopeing your well.

Where's the vacuum?

You say house full of interesting appliances, yet you deliberately leave out the vacuum pictures. Hmmph!
