I have to dog-sit my sister's boyfriends dog this coming weekend. How do you pet owners wash their food & water dishes, in the dw or by hand? Do you use any special detergents or methods? I've never had to watch someones pet and don't want to screw up. if at all possible. Thanks guys for any help.

Our dogs food bowls go through the dishwasher with the rest of the crockery....

Water bowls I wash by hand with normal dish liquid. Rinse very well. I only do this because it takes 5 minutes and the dishwasher takes an hour.

anything

that gets washed in my house goes in the dishwasher. usually put the dog bowls in the bottom rack but it's not a rule.

By hand....

I would run them through the d/w, but ms. anal annie who lives here doesnt approve of putting much in there

Both

The food bowls go through the dishwasher, and the water bowls I usually wash by hand, but sometimes they go through the dishwasher too.

Don't have a dishwasher...

so the bowls go in the sink to be washed by hand, after everything else has been washed and dried. I use fresh kitchen linens every day, so I don't worry too much about "dog spit" all over them. I keep a clean sink too, so don't mind the bowls in the sink all that much.

We put all of our dogs water bowl and food bowls into the dishwasher bottom rack and set it to "Sanitize" daily along with our dishes.
Nothing could survive that mode. When you open the door when the cycle completes enough steam comes out to fog up most of the kitchen!

In the DW

Norman's dinner bowls go in the dishwasher, but his waterdish is not DW safe, so that is by hand. If you are not sure, and it is not yours, I would not do it.

IMHO

Wanna be safe? Wash them by hand with the same care you'd give your own dishes if washing by hand (clean all corners, etc., and rinse well). I'd avoid anything that leaves any residue.

Water dish, probably every other day. Same with the food dish if it's dry food. Wet food = wash after each feeding. Moist (i.e.- Moist and Meaty) = every day.

Fred's bowls are stainless steel so they go in the bottom rack of the dishwasher. I feed him Blue Buffalo dog food and have to give him some pumpkin for added roughage. His red fleece coat ends up in the ABC too. How we spoil our pets! lol have fun, Gary

Sorry, couldn't resist including a shot of Korky!!

His bowls are stainless steel and go in the dishwasher like the people dishes. He only wishes he had access to all that people food in the fridge!!

His sofa blankets are washed in a Frigidaire 2140 once a week or so.
