Korky is Rhodesian Ridgeback mixed with "we don't know what". He behaves like a Ridgeback, in that:
1. He's a terrible guard dog, to him all human are potential treat-bearers and attention-lavishers. He is as affectionate toward strangers as he is to me.
2. He's killed coyotes, bobcats, raccoons, possums, rats, etc....which is what Ridgebacks in Africa do: they rid the farm of nuisance animals.
3. He completely ignores ducks and chickens. They are beneficial farm animals so he ignores them.
4. Cats are a problem. Ridgebacks hunt lions in packs, and unfortunately he thinks cats are baby lions. I've been told they are ok around cats if raised together, but they still go after unknown cats. Just instinct.
5. He will bark if he hears a strange noise, a doorbell, or knock on the door. However, as soon as he sees it's a human, he's quite friendly. When he does bark, it's worth checking out because he's quite selective about barking.
