How Is Everyone Doing After The Storm?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

for the garage in the city.....I have underground water pipes leading to the garage....and although above ground their wrapped with heat tape....I let the water just dribble slightly, running water will not freeze, and I rather pay a slightly higher water bill, than pay a plummer to dig up and replace that pipe.....then again, I have never used 26,000 gallons of water per quarter doing it this way....although the new meter detects theres a leak somewhere....

I have automatic heaters in the water bowls for the chickens....and it has frozen solid......

Minus 11 wind chill minus 25

a whopping 64 degrees in my cubicle. Running a 2ooW Lasko Myheat trying to stave off frostbite.

Well, we've lost all water. I suppose the roof tanks are empty. As a precaution, I filled everything I had, so at least I have water for the necessities. I had to press 3 electric heaters into service. Even though the radiators are hot, it seems they are overwhelmed by the extreme cold. Current temp: 5F

Oh Louie!

I'm sorry. I didn't realize that the extreme cold could affect water tanks on the tops of buildings.

Yikes.

One more reason to be thankful I live in a five-floor walkup. Sufficient water pressure from the main. No need for gravity-feed from the roof.

Crappy! Didn't wanna drive my old car for fear of it breaking down, so I borrowed my wife's...

Then last night, after not having driven it for 2 days, my car did start...

But this morning, intending to take it today, & getting all that snow off of it, it DIED!

So now here's some endless calling & waiting for help from our A-A-A...!!!!

Plumbers just left after replacing the pipes. It turns out there was NO INSULATION on the exterior wall of the basement. The basement was 'renovated' (haha!) but no heat was installed. None. Zilch. Zero. Zip. Nada. I now have to run an electric radiator in the basement bathroom to prevent a repeat. And... not one, but two steam radiators were removed from the first floor during the so-called renovation. There are two left, laughably small given the square footage of the first floor.

Just two more ways my friends were ripped off when they bought this over-priced house. Sadly, neither of them is with us today. If they were to reappear I'd hug the shit out of them then slap them silly screaming, "What the fuck were you thinking?!?!?!"

Global COOLING...???

sorry to all in advance, but as retired Biologist, I can't let that one go... so... trolling? or just joking, right?

Either that, or the corporatist flacks, and their lapdog mouthpiece, Faux News, have a lot to answer for. As a scientist I'll base judgement regarding anthropomorphic causality of global warming on facts and published research by 99% of the PhDs in the relevant sciences in peer-reviewed journals such as The Journal of Atmospheric Science, Geophysical Review Letters, The Journal of Geophysical Research, and others in that field, not to mention virtually the entire scientific community worldwide. The corporate propagandists and shills must not be permitted by means of their insidious disinformation campaigns to overcome scientific facts to the detriment of the welfare of the world that we will leave behind.

Here is an actual science based refutation...

of the ridiculous conclusions on tree-ring data drawn, or shall we say "spun" for political reasons known only to him and his ilk, by Chriss Street, the propagandist of "Cal Watch.com", above link, who by the way is also host of "The American Exceptionalism Radio Talk Show"... nuff said.

Roger ...

... don't flame the messenger.

The study was published in the journal "Nature". He was merely citing it. Got a problem with that?

Or are you so wedded to the ACADEMIC propagandists that you can't entertain factual evidence that conflicts with the politically correct and "approved" scientific narrative?

Methinks that if this were 600 years ago, you'd be the first in line calling for the burning at the stake of anyone "foolish" enough to dispute the 99% of "experts" who said the Earth was flat.

Yes I DO...

have a problem with that kind of un-scientific deliberate manipulation of perfectly valid data as interpreted by a blogger with a blatant political agenda to provide misleading "information". Now, go read the link that I provided and tell me SPECIFCALLY with legitimate peer-reviewed citations how it is scientifically incompatible with "your" facts, and not your "opinion" as to what is real or not, or why. As a great Senator from NY once said, we may be entitled to our own opinion, but not to our own facts.

The stakes are too high to allow the spread of malicious "information" that, in reality, has as it's true intent to allow the forces of corporate avarice to exploit the scientifically ignorant or the intellectually lazy for their own selfish ends. The real facts and history shall speak for themselves someday, but let us hope not by the inundation or starvation of millions at the hands of self serving corporate greed.

It's not I who's the Flatlander here. Who is rejecting the collective consensus of scientists worldwide? Galileo, Copernicus, et al were the true scientists, forming their hypothesis and using data to confirm, or reject, whereas the flatlanders did not do so. To presume an agenda on the part of the overwhelming preponderance of the world's atmospheric scientists demonstrates a total lack of understanding of how science is practiced or the the Scientific Method. However, I suspect that I'm totally wasting my time, as to honestly debate presupposes a willingness to accept demonstrated truth and reason to the extent that it is verifiable and fits within the empirically observable, as opposed to propaganda and manipulative lies, a predicate which apparently does not exist in some worlds. No amount of persuasion will convince those for whom the perversion of the truth is more lucrative that the embrace of an enlightenment that is not convenient or does not conveniently fit their pre-determined Weltanschuung.

Oh, and just one more thing...

as to the disparagement of academics as "propagandists"... you know, all those pointy headed PhDs in the Universities trying to ruin our lives by encouraging cleaning up the environment. Well I'd have to say I'm proud to be associated with that motley lot, seems to me better than to throw in with the Know-Nothings. You know, the ones easily influenced by the Koch Bros/Exxon funded climate-science denying corporate prostitutes.

Then again, there has always been a pronounced strain of anti-intellectualism in America, a phenomenon well documented by de Toqueville over 150 yrs ago. Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose!

It is a balmy 8 here and wind has finally dropped considerably. Everything is a skating rink after the big freeze when all the heavy rain yesterday and last night froze solid with way sub zero wind chills. Sand and salt is worthless until it warms up some and it can grip in. Heavy winds knocked out power all over this part of New England today and even farther south. Its only the beginning of January and am looking so foward to spring finally coming.

On Old Cape Cod...

It's a toasty warm 10 degrees.

High today of 22.

I feel like I'm lucking out. Although it was 5 degrees today at the Fairhaven Shipyard. My Housemate is replacing 5 1200HP Detroit Diesels in the Whale Watch Boat next to the restaurant and was almost blue when he got home.

Not to mention the 15-20 knot wind.

Just had a Nice Braised Short Rib Dinny for He and his Wife, with Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Brussels, and a Romaine Salad with a Avocado Bleu Cheese dressing.

Few Cocktails, Bottle of Red Wine and all are ready for bed !!!
