How Much S.T.T.P. to add for each box..

I bought like 20 pounds of food grade S.T.T.P. /Phosphates for my dishwasher cause with our hard water and the detergent company stupidity Cascade complete won't clean without phosphates.My New G.E. pure clean was terrible at washing witch was odd sense the holes are now smaller than any Maytag Jetclean ever and our old Triton with the same clean great.I found a box a Cascade with dawn with the Phosphates in the very back and the dishes are spotless now burned on stuff and the dishwasher packed it all comes clean..I don't know how much to add to each box of detergent though I get the biggest boxes of Cascade/Finnish depending on my mood...

Have always just added the STPP into the detergent cups, never bothered to mix, but that is just me.

Normally 1/4 or less of a teaspoon per cup should get you where you need to go, depending upon conditions on the ground.

Most phosphated DW detergents say they are around 8% phosphorus. If you do the quantitative chemistry math, that works out to about 33% STPP by weight or volume. Yes, the sodium and oxygen in STPP take up the rest of the weight.

So for every 2 tsp DW detergent, add 1 tsp STPP. That would be my recommendation. If you can get by with less, so much the better.

I don't think you need to pay extra for food grade STPP, though. Technical grade should do just fine. But now you have plenty to add to cold cuts to keep them moist and juicy ;-).

Grey Water...

...also, if you're ever interested in recycling grey water for irrigating non-food plants, STPP is great.

I used to use natural soap and STPP in my wringer washer. When I was done with my week's laundry, I would connect the drain hose to a garden hose, turn on the pump, and water my back yard! The bushes loved it.
