how to clean my vintage 70s electric super fridgidaire? help!

Hi!

Maybe a silly question, but my new oven is getting a bit dirty. My husband has spilled some food mess under the burners. I tried pulling them out to remove (like i would with my old stove) and they arent budging. Is there a trick to remove them so i can clean the drip pans?

I beleive that the burners on this Frigidaire stove tilt up by lifting and moving them either to the left or right.  They don’t plug in and out like most modern electric burner do, they  fold up and down.  Once you tilt the burner up and over to either the left or the right you can remove the brace under the burners that holds them in place and drip pans for cleaning.

ebay would be your best bet for replacement burners.  Frigidaire stopped producing the type used on your stove quite some time ago, so it's unlikely that an appliance parts retailer would have them in stock anymore.

 

My advice is to be careful with how you use your stove.  Don't bang pots and pans around on the burners or they're sure to become compromised or stop working altogether.  My mom's 1949 range had all but one of its original burners (I had snagged some matching extras off a junked stove) when it was passed along to its 2nd owner in 2008.  She taught us kids to leave the pot or pan sitting on the burner and to stir the contents.

Care and Cleaning Of A FD Electra-Clean Range

Hi, As pointed out the burners just pivot up and then the parts lift out for cleaning and you have access to the area below.

 

The burner bowels themselves can be cleaned in the Self-Cleaning-Oven, just stager them on the oven racks when running the self clean cycle.

 

To care for the surface elements use flat cook ware, the elements should NOT be red hot when using high heat, if more than 30% of the element turns red hot your cookware is not suitable to use on an electric range.

 

These elements are very durable, don't worry about banging pots on them etc and could last another 30 years with ease if treated properly, even if you use this stove a lot it is unlikely you will ever have to replace more than one of them.

Out here we have a great small chain called Appliance Parts Distributors. I've been able to get replacement for my Frigidaire Compact 30 (out in the enclosed patio kitchen), no problem. Well, maybe 10 years ago. And it would not surprise me if there are aftermarket burners out there too.

FD Mono-Tube Surface Elements

ARE completely NLA, There are no generics that I have seen either, luckily we have lots of new and used ones around but they sell for as much as $100 each on Ebay etc.

 

I have seen regular elements used on FD ranges but they really don't fit well however the thiner elements sure work a lot better.
