How to use Rinse & Hold on Hotpoint Potwasher DIshwasher

Dumb question. I have a older Hotpoint potwasher dishwasher with water temp boost, and on the corner of the dial it says ''Rinse & Hold (Press drying heat off). How on earth do I use that feature? Do I turn the dial to the rinse & hold, and turn drying heat off or what? But I want to be sure so I dont screw up my dishwasher.

Maytag, yep that's pretty much it. What you are doing is actually using the last two rinses of the cycle. You want to turn the heat off so you don't bake the smutz back on. From experience, it's real easy to turn timer at little far and miss that first fill (same as when starting). Being OCD I watched my HP DW to see exactly where the fill started so as to no miss it.

The "Rinse-n-Hold" function is used to rinse off dishes that are going to be left sitting in the dishwasher and you don't plan on "washing" them because you're waiting for a full load.

If your machine has an optional heat switch for drying be sure you turn the heat off so that the dishwasher doesn't bake on any food left after the rinse.

Also, when setting the dial to the "Rinse & Hold" I would latch the door closed after you reach the desired spot on the dial. That way the machine is not jumping on and off as you go thru the cycles on the dial.

I found years ago with the KDI-17a that running Rinse/Hold causes odor instead of preventing it (dirty water left in the pump sump and to evaporate off the dishware).  I have not used Rinse/Hold for 20+ years.

Years ago, and mind you it was with an impeller-wash dishwasher, I used the Rinse and Hold cycle before running a regular wash cycle.  It was a good extra pre-rinse for really dirty loads.
