your hubby sounds like mine even though we dont live together he tolerates my stuff as he calls it and has developed a good eye on finding things. I called him last tues eve wed is usually date nite for us and told him we were going to a nearby town for dinner and needed to drive the truck.............1st words (What are we picking up ) LOL a wht belt drive imperial 70 whirlpool he even helped load he is a treasure

Gibbie is cute!  We had a wired hair terrier for 20+ years, was a terror for 18 of them.  Open door she'd be out in a flash, chew chew chew, but she was part of the family.  Hope Gibbie is better behaved!

Hey Matt - he's hell on wheels! puts everything in his mouth - but LOVES rocks and big sticks - his personal best was this huge chunk of rock that he dropped just inside the doggie door yesterday - and the first photo shows a few of his other treasures that I have taken away from him - do you have any photos of your doggie? I have collected on ebay some cool photos of wires from the 30's -(but they seem better behaved than Gibbie)

I've loved and wanted to own a wire hair terrier since first seeing ASTA on the Thin Man movies - and then later - Monsieur Bob on the Poirot episode - Dumb Witness - through the years I had been cautioned about their tenacity - but we love this nutty guy![this post was last edited: 7/16/2014-09:37]

Yes, finding the tribe

I found this site just poking around some years ago. It was an amazing find for me and I have stayed on. The discussions and contributions are smart and I have learned a lot here.
... I've never been to a wash-in... (sniff). Met some of the gang at a vac meet though.
That aside, my father was an engineer for Hotpoint's Home Laundry division 1948-1985. We fixed everything at home. Having the Hotpoint Silhouettes torn apart in the basement wasn't all that unusual in my childhood.
Our constantly-failing Admiral TV took me to electronics. I spent some decades working for electronic and appliance manufacturers teaching TV repair, microwave-oven repair and handling product quality and safety issues. I did some "Carol Merrill" work at the CES shows.
This site is great as many people that contribute have intense knowledge, are articulate and are pretty nice.
And yes, this is a great tribe to be associated with.
I contribute wherever I can. Knowledge is no good to me unless I share it.

I became interested in vintage appliances in college. As I've gotten older (and I mean starting in my teens and twenties to now - forties) I have gained an appreciation for the styling and durability of older cars, furnishings, and appliances. I bought a 1952 GE Combo fridge at auction for $2.50 to use while in college in the mid-1990s and my love affair began. I haven't looked back.

I found AW.org via a search engine. My first impression was - These guys who like old washers are weird but I realized that someone like me who likes old stoves and fridges is weird too. I now like the old washers and dryers and would love to get a 1950s or earlier set.

I sometimes regret replacing the 1955 O'Keefe & Merritt range that was in my house when I bought it - with a slick new Viking - but function drove that decision - she was a beauty - very chromey!
