Help Support :

This is no fun :'-(

Thanks to all for your prayers and wishes. I think we all are really going to need it.

This mornings news says it is going to hit between Galveston and Matagorgda. Also saying it may stall around with all the winds and rain, so Austin and Venus, ya'll better hunker down!

How do you figure out all these worse case scenarios? MG, I am so materialistic. Hating the thought of loosing most of my family/friends heirlooms.

No insurance, so I will be SOL, if this mobile home blows away. This day has been the day I have been dreading for the last 4 yrs. of living here. I figured at some point soon, I will start breaking down and crying, because this is just too much to handle.

There is only so much of my antiques and collectibles I can get out of here. Unfortuneatly, the rest are going to have to stay. I hate the thought of loosing ANYTHING!

I awoke to a bad dream this morning...(short version) "trying to save my mothers ashes, and only having a certain amount of time, to get back on the boat, before it closed up. My daughter and I paddling on a surfboard of all things, with me holding onto my mothers half opened Urn". It was really bizarre. I woke up by the time we got to the entrance of whatever it was we were trying to get to. Freaky.

So far, I am staying at my sister's BRICK home 4 miles away, while I think they are all heading up near Shreveport, to the in-laws. I may change my mind at some point, but right now I'm too stubborn to go at this point, because I want to be able to come back here ASAP and shoot any looters. I know, sick huh? Must the redneck Texan coming out in me.

Thanks for letting me rant. I apologise. It's just all so overwhelming, esp. for me. *sigh*.

Dadoes, I can relate to your mom having "conniption fits", I am like that too right now. Must be a female thing. lol
Man, I have been in such a tizzy.

Prayers go out to everyone here in Texas Applianceville. May God or whoever your higher power is, Keep you ALL safe!

Now to start the loading process! Gotta find the Xanax! lol/jk, NOT!

Ok folks, you cannot change the course, however, you can change a plan of being safe. These hurricanes are no game, not fun, and will be devestating. Take it from me here in Pensacola, all ya'll Texans even as far as Dallas, get out of harms way. Glenn, Austin, Venus & Family, appnut, Tex, and Maytagmom please adhere to the warnings. It is not only to coastal areas effected, but the horrible tornados spawned by these massive storms that follow them. So if you think you live far enough away from the coast, here is my Grandmothers house in Covington LA from three weeks ago. Covington is just north of New Orleans and is 75 miles from the gulf!

Steve

Carol, glad ya posted. Glenn, ugh, you weren't even born in 1961. As bad, if not worse than Carla, means a Catagory 5 storm, worse than Katrina. BTW for anyone curious, Hurricane Carla gave us Dan Rather. I even remember his constant broadcasting for the local CBS affiliate from the basement of a building in Galveston. This was quite a feat for modern tv journalism at the time & network big wigs noted. And the rest is history as we know it. Incidentally, Walter Cronkite went to the same Jr. High I did.

This morning's newspaper had an article about 7-10 Tulane Med. students were expected to arrive here in the next week for them to resume their training. Univ. of Texas Med. Branch Galveston could be flooded out like Tulane if the conditions are right. So, we'll be receiving more students and residents/fellows if needed.

Bob, quick note before I start loading the truck...

I was 4 years old when Carla hit. My parents tried to outrun the storm, by heading up to family near Marlin. My dad was an electrician at an alarm co. and had to be at work the next day, SOooo, he drive my mom and 3 kids BACK to Houston during the eye of the storm.
My sister and I were talking about this yesterday, and she said she can't even remember how he got back, but everything was intact, but there was no electricity, etc.
The next day it was flooded. The only memory I have is of me and my sister and brother playing in the water in front of the house. Me holding up my little dress (very high) so the water wouldn't get it wet. Dad took 8 mm film of it, and at the present time, it is at a video shop, getting transferred over to DVD.
Alicia was a *&^%$ too. I never slept at all that night. Living in South Houston at the time, I can just remember freaking out....sounded like a freight train coming through.
Didn't loose anything then, really did not have much then. Not like I do now. *sigh*
On a FUNNY note...now if Anderson Cooper shows up here, I will relays all the love and affection some of you guys have for him. And will direct him to this website! ;-) Gives me reason to stay and seek him out...he is cute. LOL.
More later from Hurricane Central.

Kids, I dont even know where to begin and how to phrase my wishes that his all comes to pass with minimal negative impact on your lives.

I am speechless and feel very powerless, even at this great distance from the coming storm.

May your higher power guide you, protect you, help you, and continue to nourish you mind, body and soul. AMEN.

And now to lighten this up and bring it down to the level to the level expected of me..

Carol, Miss you hunny and sorry I have not responded to your personal e-mail to me. If I had any good chemicals like valium, zanex, paxil etc, you KNOW they'd be on you doorstep FedEx! Lawd knows it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

Now WHO pissed off Mother Nature and how do we calm her down?
Maybe her mouth is the Grand Canyon and I should've stuck some of those chemicals in there?

Seriously..... my prayers are with everyone known and unknown to me in that area.

Glenn, Austin/Venus and Family, Bob, Tex and others I hope you guys will evacuate North if your counties go under a warning. Everything is crossed (including my eyes) that this wont be the case, but Rita packing a punch now and must be taken seriously. Keep us posted and let us know you are safe when you can.

That ain't no Marga-RITA!

Wow! As if things weren't crazy enough here! I haven't had time to read or post just because of the tremendous list of to-dos at the Wilder wildlife facility! Now, we have a hurricane to deal with!

Projected tropical storm winds will expand about 140 miles out. If the current path prevails, the storm will pass between San Antonio and Dallas, which means Bellville takes a big hit! I am more concerned with rain than with wind. We came to within one inch from flooding inside the house during our last heavy rain. It was about six inches deep in the garage, lapping at the back door. The RCI-59 is still in there on the packing pallet, so hopefully she will stay dry. I also have my fingers crossed that the laundry shed will not suffer any flooding. It is in the flood zone because of a creek that runs directly behind it.

It was a zoo at the grocery store this morning; no C or D batteries, no water, huge lines, etc. I am glad that's over with. Now I will continue to remove yard *projectiles* and get stuff up in the attic that may get wet. We will probably be taking in evacuating relatives and pets, so this will be one crazy household!

To all of my fellow washer friends along the gulf and inland in the projected storm area: Keep Safe! If you are told to evacuate, please do so. It is far better to be a little inconvenienced than injured (or worse).

Anderson Cooper? Not, my type, but I will certainly make room for, uhm, Hugh Jackman. ;-)

... Drinking out of a two-liter
When I cause a glimpse of Rita
Churning through the waters of the Mexico Gulf
Katrina came, if Rita makes it
Up to Texas, we will hate it
Goin' up to Okie, all the motels are booked

Ohhhh

Ugly Rita Hurricane
Never go mess with Venus
If you do, you'll wash her stove away

Bob, take the next verse :-)

Woo Hoo! I'm hauling a%$ but not like you think!

Not to worry Jason....Tom and I are old hurricane veterans. He grew up in Houston and rode out Carla, and I grew up in Miami and "weathered" a s%$tload of hurricanes!

Talk about a "wash-in"! I am hauling a*# to do laundry just in case the power and water conk out. I'm in a sudsing frenzy! LOL

Oddly enough....Tom's mom is named Rita. I will definitely give her a hard time about this one! ;-)

Venus - who is not "Blowing in the Wind" just yet!

Venus is sounds like you are really busy but have things under control, (just like you)!! All of you down there are going to be on our minds constantly. I know that you are all busy but please do keep us posted if you can. Terry

I'm having my mom's conniptions. There's a "mandatory" evacuation for Wharton County effective 6 AM tomorrow. I'm not prepared to leave, too much needs to be done. I'm at a loss. The only place I can think to go, with the granny in tow, would be Temple. Landfall currently is predicted for Sat morn.

Maybe you just need to follow your instincts! Get out if you need to; don't wait! All materials things are replacable; human life is not.

Thanks guys for your support. Glenn, if there's a mandatory evacuation for Wharton County, grab what you need, take your parents with you, and GET OUT! It doesn't matter where you go (come to Bellville if you want) but don't take chances with this one...I'm watching the news and she's already a Cat-5! I'm still wondering how it will affect Austin County; if it slams into Matagorda then we'll definitely get it here! Our relatives who live in Seabrook already left, and will probably end up coming here from Houston.

I'm probably going to bring the WO-65-2 (up about 3-4 feet) back into the house later today. The range should be OK, though there's really not much we can do to move it if the garage does get flooded. The 6" of water was caused by an overflowing storm drain right by our street, and our driveway runs downward right into our house, so...we'll see. But if it floods from the back (which is lower than the front like I mentioned), then that will be a BIG problem.

We've already stocked up on supplies and other things, so now I'm going to wheel out the GE and fire up the Maytag, because there's a ton of laundry and I'd better do it while there's power, and there are "non-wind-proof" things left to be moved as well!
